Hey Folks,

I have an odd question.

I have a front hub that I want to put onto a track bike. The Hub is designed for use with a quick release. I do not want to put a quick release on this bike. Is there anything out there ( I haven't been able to think of anything), that will replace the the QR?

Ideally I would love to find a solid axel that could be used.

The only thing I have come up with so far is using the Krptonite Locking Skewer on it.

Why not just replace the axle with a solid one?

I have a allen QR replacement on mine. I actualy use these on most of my rides. Effectively the same as a QR cuz who doesn't ride with a 5mm allen anyway.

It's probably the same amount of people who ride with a 15mm box wrench.
Unless you have a lock around it, its the illusion of safety anyway. Sorry to be a debbie downer...

zipp has a track replacment skewer. it's a regular bolt on, but it will fit thru a hollow axle like a quick release. i forget where to get them, but they are made by zipp, maybe others too?

I like the Allen QR idea. My Level Rear hub has 6mm Allen bolts on it as well. I totally agree with the illusion of safety, and I lock both wheels when leaving my bike anywhere.

That zipp skewer sounds interesting too.. Will look into it.

my shop sells AxleRodz or something like that, it replaces the QR with an allen wrench bolt. sure, not totally solid, but more of a theft deterrent. they're popular in DC, where most theifs are too lazy to pull out wrenches but take whatever QR they can find.

I never leave my bike outdoors for more than a few minutes. I just want to slow them down which is why i recently did the same thing and replaced QR with solid axle.

My point was actually that everyone has a 5 mm allen on them so it works as well as a QR. They are not for security just a cleaner look. And yes I also carry a 15mm box in my bag.

Yeah I gotcha, that's what I meant too - anyone who carries any tools (15mm box being the standard, most common) chances are they are carrying an allen set. Although I only carry a 6mm and 3mm (saddle and tugs).

If it's just about theft deterrence, leave the QR and put a hose clamp over it (or two). Everyone carries a flathead screwdriver also, but loosening two hose clamps will take a few minutes, which will deter any thieves wary of imperial entanglements.

Ah, well, that was just the first one I found. I would do some serious shopping myself at that price.
