As the title obvoiusly indicates, this is the first time I've built up a fixed gear, so I've got a few questions:

I've got a 14t cog in the back, does it particularly matter what kind of chain ring I have up front? I'm also not really sure how to remove one of the three chainrings, as it needs two of those to be mounted securely, but that's a question for another time

I've got the track cog secured with the lockring on the hub, but it's a flip-flop hub, so I have no idea how to setup the other, freewheel side. So.....how do I do set it up?

....I think that's it. The gear ratio is what I'm a bit concerned about, as I have no idea

what size chainring you have is completely up to your preference.
all a matter of how hard a gear ratio you want.

I built mine up at 46/16....it seemed to work well when i lived in portland with hills and stuff but I'm upping it to a 48 since im in a flatter city.
what kind of terrain you are ridinig in will make some difference to your prefernce

if you're saying what i think you're saying, then what you need are single stack bolts (scroll down.)


well you don't have to do anything with the other side. you can put a freewheel on it, if one day you feel like coasting. or, (if your flip flop hub has locring threads on both sides) you can just put a different sized track cog on there.


search these forums. there are so many threads about gear ratios, it's as if there were one thread for every little boy in michael jackson's bedroom. BA-ZING.
