Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

kool-stop pads are the bee's knees

i was using shimano rsx dual-pivot calipers with generic CX levers (from IRO) and stock RSX pads... they worked fine, or so i thought

today i picked up Kool-Stop "Dura" holder & pad set... replaced the plastic RSX blocks with these things and almost threw myself over the bar on the first brake test; they arent even broken-in

these things allow endos on demand...something i wasnt previously able to do. ill give it a few weeks to test the wear and noise, but, so far so good

Bikes: I built the Bianchi track bike back up today.

Kool Stops are all I run if I'm running a bike with brakes...

I guess I should get some for the road bike I just got if I want to make that truth....

From: Buzzing around the Portland, OR metro area.

Bikes: Handbuilt steel with Ultegra10/FSA parts; a fully customized Bianchi Pista with phil hubs, carbon fork, king headset, etc. it's tough.

i love 'em -- i have them on both my fixie and my roadie. i do notice that they wear through a bit faster than other pads i've had, but that's really not a big deal -- and the fact that they work as well as they do makes up for that.

(especially here in portland, where it's constantly raining.. though not for long!)

https://www.jagwire.com.tw/ Also a fine pad company, cartridge system as well.
Check the Switchback Tri-zone mtn pad, very well designed.

And they don't chew soft Mavic rims so much, either After replacing both my Shimano/Aztec-chewed rims last month, that means a lot to me!

I also replaced my dura-ace (9 speed groupo right after 9 speed was introduced) pads with Koolstop. The Koolstop performed much better. However I recently got a new bike with 10 speed Dura Ace. The brakes are every bit as good as my 9 speed with Koolstop. I know Shimano supposively made improvements with the brakes on the 10 speed groupo but the Smimano pads definately are improved. The rubber compound is softer and more sticky feeling as well.
