I just posted something about Kalavinka lugs in another thread, then out of curiousity did a search on the term 'Kavalinka' and just found that single reference.

You folks haven't been sharing the Kalavinka love? Here's a couple links to galleries of his keirin and road fixed stuff.

*WARNING* Keirin Bike Pron, not suitable for younger viewers:

man, those bikes are hot. i know this question has been answered before, but why do some, if not most, of the keirin bikes have different rear fork end spacings? the kavalinka bikes run 113 or 123mm spacings.

Whatever.

Did you like the bikes or are you just going to quibble with me over internet slang conventions?

Probably to accomodate MKS chain tensioners.

It gets worse- you misspelled "Kalavinka" in the thread title

No big deal, though. Thanks for the links. The bikes are gorgeous!

Ah, that's some good pr0n. Just adds to my lust for a lugged frame. What does a set of NJS lugs cost, and where do you get them in North America?

I'm still trying to figure out why a Japanese bike company has an eastern european sounding name....and why nobody can spell it right!

Lugs look nice though. Don, whats the specs on the ones you have?

so the loli-pop part of the tug is on the inside? I got mine on ass-bakerds. I guess I'd need 123mm spacing to do it right.

They really are smooth lines, remind me of my 83 Nagasawa NJS hanging in my shop.
I have a friend who is trying to get me some Kaisei tubing from Japan, if he is successful, I will use it with those lugs.

DW
are OS tubes OK for keirin use?

...there is the Kalavinka, a bird of a Buddhist paradise whose voice as described in part 16 of Acts of the Buddha by Ashvaghosha as the most beautiful of all voices -- so clear and melodic. A T'ang (Chinese) dynasty opera named after it became popular in 9th-century Japan and is still performed; the role of the birds is performed by 4 little boys with wings and flowery crowns playing little cymbals intended to imitate the kalavinka's timbre.

I just bought a Bomber Pro frame that Mr. Tanabe from Kalavinka hooked me up with (Tanabe trained the Bomber guys on frame-building). I'm a little confused about all this talk about rear hub spacing since my frame is 120mm and no one at Kalavinka even blinked when I asked about spacing discrepancies. I'm not sure why it's even an issue, especially since these are all steel frames. Kalavinkas are so beautiful that I would buy one with hesitation if I could afford one.

American culture is so confusing sometimes. See, I've been to Japan on numerous occasions and there's nothing cheap about Ramen. I assume 'Ramen' in the US is like the UK's 'Pot Noodles' or our 'Two Minute noodles'? Freeze dried noodles in a pack that cost about 45c?

except that they are even cheaper. like 6-10 packs for $1! A bunch of cheap noodles, and a flavo(u)r packet that is salt, msg, and other chemical compounds.

45 cents? Yeah right! Try 4 for a dollar.

Anyhow, ramen in the US is not ramen in JP, or so I'm told.

Yeah, 45c if you're buying the fancy pants stuff. I'm furiously trying to decide whether I want some soulless job this summer to afford a bike with some real soul. It's a hard compromise to ask a man to make. . .

the town I live in, Sano, is famous for it's ramen. it's pretty much the same as the cheap stuff except for it's homemade and all fancy'd up. there's the cheap stuff too at the supermarket, the cheapest I found is $1.50 for 5 packs.
