Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

That Windsor is a nicer bike than that 6KU. The 6KU is not bad for what it is, but the Windsor is a better bike based on the specs.

Why would they install a rear brake, and not a front?

Go ahead and get yourself a Kilo TT Pro. Good stock components and a steal for the price.

Bikes: Windsor The Hour ~ Trek FX 7.3

A have a Windsor The Hour. I am pretty new to Fixed Gear, so I am no expert on FG bikes. That being said the Hour has been an awesome introduction and I do not regret the purchase one bit. Although I occasionally question if I should have gone with the Kilo TT. I believe that the reason that I went with the Hour over the Kilo was the slightly more relaxed geometry. I was concerned about toe overlap, in hindsight that seemed like a rookie worry.

The Hour does come with a front brake. The rear brake and lever are a "free bonus".

My friend who got me into fixed gears had a Windsor The Hour, pretty solid bike a great bike to get your foot in the door. Like mentioned before you literally can't go wrong with a Kilo tt.

If you're set on upgrading to something "much nicer" after your initial foray into FG riding I'd go for The Windsor. If you want a bike that you can keep for a few years I'd go Kilo TT. As a fellow FG NYC rider I can tell you that its one of the most fun ways to get around! I can also tell you that as efficient as you may become with stopping without a brake there WILL be a time you wish you had run at least a front brake.

Have fun!

Why not go with the Windsor Clockwork Plus over the Hour: Save Up To 60% Off Windsor Fixie Singlespeed Bikes - Clockwork

It's a little more than the Hour but still way less than most complete bikes, available in a lot more size and color options, comes with a slightly nicer looking crankset, and two decent brakes installed with hoods and levers. Personally I can't stand riding with drops on the street without hoods, so that's worth the extra $80 for sure.

Bikes: State Bicycles Trooper 3.0

Just bought my first single speed/fixie from State Bicycle. The 4130 Core line is a nice place to start and the right now is 100 bucks off from their website. I think they have a shop that sells them in NYC as well so you could possibly ride one prior to purchase.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I ended up going to a LBS, honestly the girl there was so helpful it just made more sense to me and it was worth the extra few dollars. I went with a bike from a local company. I'm pretty excited to start riding this beauty, I pick it up later tonight..

Congratulations ! Going to an LBS was a great decision. Not only did you get a good quality bike, but you get proper assembly and service. Enjoy !
