Good luck! Assuming your frame isn't too big for you my money is on the 80mm stem.

I posted pictures of this bike in the S/S threads a couple of years ago but have been asked by TimothyH to post some that were taken a couple of days ago in here

2008(ish) Genesis Skyline which I bought second hand in 2013. It had done less than 20 miles from new. The original owner never managed to master the single speed and the bike was carefully tucked away in his garage wrapped in the original box and lots of sheets to keep it like new. I use it mostly during the winter months here in Scotland to keep the salt away from my geared bikes and it has taken me on some epic journeys through the winters

Thanks. Ride quality of the Tange Prestige coupled with archetypes/veloflex masters is something else. Bonkers! Not ugly either :D

Didn't you have IRD Defiant cranks? What's on there now?

The IRD cranks looked badass but they were a bit flexy. On there now is the beefy All City 612.

On my commuter I have 2 different lengthed and colored presta valve lengths, I must want to watch the aestetic world burn subtly. :p

Just finished my Nature Boy SS. 853 Reynolds steel, 38c tires, 42/20 ratio and 24lbs heavy. Already swapped that stem for slightly longer, pulled all the decals off the wheels, and I'm waiting on a matchy rear rotor, but otherwise, this is it.

I used a lot of heavy-duty components for touring, which brought the weight up. Once I get my framebag in, this is going to be a dirt road explorer. The cartridge hubs aren't light, the wheels are 32-spoke (double butted), almost everything is alloy. Swapped alu chainring bolts for steel. I have the cheaper Cowbell bars, which are a bit heavier. And the brakes with 160mm rotors weigh 16g more than Avid BB7's, they are very heavy compared to something like Spyres and 140mm rotors. Finally, those pedals are boat anchors and so is the seat.

Basically, I made a slightly heavier choice like 15 times across the build. The result is a 24lb bike!

But, honestly, set up tubeless, there's no rotational weight so it still feels like a rocketship compared to all the other bikes I've ridden. And I can still get it up and over difficult obstacles like root and rocks with a bunny hop.

~2:1 is also a pretty standard gearing for a SS mtb, so if you're actually on dirt a lot it makes sense

My ECR was even lower than that and i did fine keeping up on roads until we went downhill

I love your choices for the wheels, really putting the money where it matters. It's funny, last spring I built a 'beater' wheelset with Formula hubs, cheap Origin8 23mm rims, and Sapim Race spokes w/ alloy nipples and they feel faster than my Archetype/Phil wheels with no durability issues.

That gear ratio of a tick higher than 2:1 is where it's at for sure.

I've been riding my Krampug since the spring, so I took that ratio and added a bit so I wasn't spinning on my commute. It's about perfect- I'm getting more comfortable with high cadences so I can spin it to win it if I'm trying to pass someone on a downhill. But, it's definitely offroad-geared.

If I was exclusively on the trail I'd go 40/20. If I was exclusively on the road for commuting I'd go 42/18. Right in the middle works.

Hey, I just kind of found this forum so I realize you guys haven't seen my Pugsley either. I bikepacked across Iceland as dinglespeed, but never used the 24/25 climbing gear, so when I got back I went 28/17 and never looked for more than one gear again. I've done a dirt century on this bike, too.
