Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Bikes: Custom Holland Ti road bike, Custom track bike I traded a painting for.

Riding along and a roadie/commuter/weak sauce passes you. He/she doesn't get too far ahead of you and you seem to catch up at lights or other obstructions such as cars, buses or stopped vans. They don't have the courage to go around but seem to get in your way or linger in places you'd squeeze by making it difficult and dangerous for you. Irritating. Out of my way!

Yup. Same here AND when I have to drive, other drivers do the same thing too.

I hate it when someone passes you just for the sake of passing. It always seem to happen on a busy road with no shoulders. Then they don't have the strength to maintain their pace and slow down. I'm faced with having to pass them when it's dangerous.

People like that were my inspiration on commutes. I would be timing the lights and on my fixie so I wouldn't have to slow or stop and I would get passed by someone who would fly by and slam on their brakes.

I would make it my mission to not only pass them, but to smile, nod and make sure they knew what getting passed felt like...and I would make sure I dropped them if possible as quick as I could.

I know its a little alpha type behaviour....but it really makes the 20km commute to work go quicker!

I totally agree with that guy. There is nothing worse than some slow poke lurching to the front at every light forcing you into traffic to get around them. Grrrr. Fast people up front, slow people in the back.

The thing that irritates me (like everyone else) is the people you've passed who zoom past at stoplights. I was at a light with two other folks on fixies yesterday, all of us trackstanding, and a genius on a hybrid decides to navigate through us, as if we were road hazards. He nearly ran into me, and did bump the other guy there (he was ok, just had to put a foot down).

Light turns, we all pass him, and the next intersection is stopped for a fire engine...and the hybrid guy tries it again.

A genius, like I said.

ok, time to vent, but what the puck is up with scooter and motorcycles using the bike lane as if it is their own personal highway? I have had way to many incidents with these ******bags, and too tie in to this thread, i do the stall right in front of them at the light, and purposely wait for cars to go so they have to wait to re-entry traffic.

i got honked at by a cop the other day because i was stopped at a stop sign to go straight and there was a ton of cross-traffic and he had to turn right. it wouldn't be forum-worthy, if it had been just a regular driver...but...a COP!? in essence encouraging me to run a stop sign.

BRILLIANCE!

I dislike bike trail commters that suck wheel for like 15 minutes, and then wait until a steep downhill when I'm undergeared, and sprint around me, not giving me the chance to draft in kind. Same kind of antisocial behavior.

It's really not about the light, but more about them stopping behind something you can get around. If someone was ahead of me i let them go ahead of me when a light turns green but it's more about them stopping behind a parked UPS truck and sitting right in between a window i can take. so annoying. And for the record. It's also not about me going fast enough. I have my pace. A ****** passes me and goes just a tiny bit faster but doesn't have the courage to go around and sticks out like a big fat sore thumb when it's time to manuever. If you can't get around then go fast enough so the person you just passed 10 seconds ago isn't on your a$$. i believe this makes sense. rawr.
