FSA Carbon Track or SRAM Omnium?
So I just bought a used FSA Carbon Track crank set for $110 including the BB and the Pro Track chain ring. I have a single speed I use just like a road bike for long distances and I'm wondering if they are not good for that purpose, am I better off with Omniums? I currently have the 6KU crank set that I want to upgrade as soon as possible, I hope I didn't screw myself buying something that may not be useful.

They'd both be fine. Some might actually advise against Omniums because of the bottom bracket, but I've never had an issue with mine. |
Don't buy first and ask later. Luckily, you did alright I would say for that price. Is this crank/bb going on a 6KU? If so, you more than doubled the value of the bike lol. I have this crank on my TK2, and since it is the only legit crank I have used, I will say it is damn awesome!! I have put thousands of miles on mine, from short rides to 75+ mile days. I use mine as a road bike and even though it is technically a track bike, since I got the frame, it has never seen a track.

Omniums > FSA Carbon Track.

Because Omniums are better.

Weight wise, don't FSA Tracks weigh like anchors at about 800g and omniums weigh 650g?

Regardless of my opinion Omniums are stiffer, a little lighter and more durable in the long run.
Contrary to fixie foo law, something being made of carbon doesn't always make it better....or lighter...or stiffer. |
In reality, when it comes to non-competitive riding, all of these track cranks are overkill. They are all plenty stiff and as to durability they will last indefinitely unless you manage to break them somehow. My choice is Sugino 75 and Sugino 75 DD, because they are very precisely made and are truly beautiful.

You have no idea how many borderline arguments have happened within the walls of my shop regarding the NJS stamp. It's ridiculous how warped some people are.
|
Sounds like you gotta respect the stamp.

Love this forum.

The NJS stamp itself is a stress raiser which will more likely be a location for crack initiation. The NJS stamped part is inherently weaker than an identical part without the stamp.

I really need to hook up live streaming cameras in this place and make a full-blown reality show. |
I find these to be extremely sharp looking, not just because they are carbon, but because they look really nice, especially on a black bike.

Probably tomorrow.

Let's get a pool going. Over/under 3 days?

Logos are totally worn through on the drive side. Those are load-bearing decals.

So I probably got ripped off? $110 in the trash?
