riding backwards is useful if you are trying to sneak through a red light at a big busy intersection. It can be a lot easier to get a grasp of the whole thing if you can swing back and forth even 180 degrees.

i get bored just doing completely still trackstands at long lights so i'll go backwards 2 feet or so then forward and repeat. the looks on the faces of the people in cars behind me is great.

That's easy, but I don't think he's talking about rocking back and forth a couple of feet. Hell, I can do that. This dude's talking about riding backwards for a long time. In order to get laid.

i wasn't trying to say it was hard or anything. he said something about traffic and that made me think of it. just kinda throwing it out there...that's what's great about the fixed forum..the topics always go in all sorts of directions.

getting laid.. i doubt that would get that, but hey all the better. but i just do it for fun. i know like one other fixie who practices where i do, we see each other sometimes, if u live in Sf come by the skating area on 6th ave in goldengate park, i'mm there nearly every day.

This thread needs at least one picture. He's not on a fixed gear, but here's backward riding from the 2005 Orbea catalog:

shiiiit, someones vicious dog is loose on me and I can't avoid I'd go through it, much easier to keep your momentum, tires forks cranks chains and rings are painful, no chance I'd fall. I love animals, but I've smacked a pit bull around that was after my lil cousin and it was scary even though I got the upper hand. Wished that the owner had been about but no one ever stepped up to take responsibility, specially after the police got involved.

on topic, I used to practice my trackstand on standby in Htown, started learning to roll it backwards a bit, do a few circles, could always bunnyhop a curb. After I popped my knee and rehabbed I was on a roadbike but still practiced trackstanding in the living room on my fixed, by then years had passed and Houston guys were really getting into the fixed thing. By the time I left houston it was more fun just watching some of the guys there do their thing, taking it to a whole new level. Squirrel just kept skidding further and further, Butch kept learning more fancy tricks and the stand competitions were getting too long, always hadda go deliver something b4 seeing who stayed up. Butch did one that is my fave just cause it looks so silly it cracks me up everytime I see it, he does backwards circles bunnyhops with or without hands. It's hilarious but hard to do. A backwards figure 8 is pretty cool too and he can do many of those in a row. too bad for H-town that he's gone off to North Carolina. If anyone here is in Charlotte there is a really good fixie rider in your town now that may want to ride with you, and may need some riders for his indy startup he'll be doing soon. Down with cars!
