Crankset help!

I want to replace my crankset. my crankset is a jt170mm with a 36 teeth crank wheel, can I upgrade to a 48 teeth crank wheel or will it be a problem?

shouldnt be a problem, you may need a new chain though, as you're adding 12 teeth to the gearing, and the chain probably won't go round. Why the big jump in teeth though? Or, why did it have so few on there? Single Speed Mountain Bike?

I'd also make sure the chainring can clear the chainstay - 36t is pretty small, if its a SSMTB you may run into clearance issues with a bigger chainring.

Ah yes, if it is a SSMTB then chances are it won't take to it. Didn't even think of that.
