Soma Rush — wide rims?
Hey everyone!
I just bought some new hubs for my Soma Rush, and I'm trying to decide what rims to lace them to. I've been thinking about some wider rims, because I run 28c tires anyway. I used to ride 24mm wide rims on my roadie and loved it. My question is: how wide can I go? I'd love some 25mm wide rims, but can the Rush take the width? It's a pretty narrow frame and 28c tires on 20mm rims is already sorta tight, so I'm not sure. if 28c tires on 25mm rims wouldn't fit, would 25c tires on 25mm rims fit?
Thanks a lot guys!

Running 28c Gatorskins on my Rush and 19mm wide Deep Vs I have 5mm clearance from the widest part of the tire to the fork on either side and 4mm either side on the rear. I would think running the 28s on a 25mm wide rim could fit but might be tight in the rear...

Thanks! I have a cheapo 28c Michelin tire on a deep V in the back right now, and it's pretty tight as it is. It seems like maybe going to 25c tires is the only way

Rim width is never the problem, but rather tire height. Using wider rims makes the tires lower, so it actually increases clearances. As to tire width, it really doesn’t change much and you simply get less of a lightbulb shape. Also, as long as your Rush was made in 2014 or later, you will have no problem with 28mm tires, although it will be a tight fit in the front with a brake.
