That is so nice, because it's 80% silver, 20% black, and nothing else. Also 100% neat & tidy. They don't get any more perfect looking.

48 front and the rear has both 15 and 16 flip flop.
The 48x16 was used a few weeks ago for a relatively flat 16.8 MPH century
Like the Bianchi, the 15 tooth is only used for fast out and back rides on the flat rail trail.

You're obviously joking, but a spinner doesn't need a very big gear to go 16.8 mph. 44x18, which is the gear I run in the spring, is 17.3 mph @ 90 rpm. I rode 25 miles this morning on a 44x17 with a moving average of 19.6 which is an average cadence of around 95 rpm. At 48x16 your average cadence is around 70 rpm at 16.8 mph.

And for the record I do like going fast, and will be repeatedly surging off the front of the Fiesta Island World Champs ride this evening at 27-30 MPH

Keep in mind that 16.8 MPH was a solo century.
16.8 isn't the only speed I ride. I've also done 30 mile rides at 22 MPH. Does that make me a masher or a spinner? I don't know.
What I do know is that for me to keep up with reasonably fast roadies on $6k carbon Di2 bikes required more than 44x17. My hat is off to anyone who can on a gear that low. I can't. 130 RPM is the most I can sustain in a paceline and it is like riding on a knife edge, very nerve racking. Going from a 16 to a 15 in the rear is the difference between keeping up and getting dropped when some of the big guys are pulling.
Keeping up with roadies is part of the reason why the Rodriguez even exists. At 54 years old I do alright.
@Scottybigs is running 50x16 so that he can keep up with other fixed riders. See post 419. To me that's a big gear. I'd be willing to bet that 99.9% of the roadies in Toronto can't hold his group's wheel.

Sounds like masher to me. Normal solo century time for me is right around 6 hours, so about the same as you, and I would have a hard time pushing a 48x16 for that distance and pace. If I were doing group rides fixed I might gear up a little, but not all the way to 48x16.

If you're trying to keep speed on a flat path yeah I guess 48/16 is a good gear. It's just bigger than what I roll on the road and I know that I'm one of the faster guys in the community here in San Diego at large. Maybe it's hillier here? IDK. I do know that I like to ride at high cadence.
My track bike is 51/15t and that is a sweet spot for me for the 333 m concrete oval they have here in San Dieog, in the Men's A's.
