Aluminum Track Frame
Does anyone make a aluminum track frameset with a standard headset (non-integrated) for something around $600? If not, what are my cheapest options with the least amount of wait for custom?

You can buy a cheapo from chuck's bike...
Why aluminum? Why the jump to mention custom? |
Our pal xavier over at www.bullteksports.com has got a nice looking frame - a Jade Aria - for 399 dollars, frame only. I have no experience with that frame or brand, but it sure does look cool. Also there's the aluminum DeBernardi for 800 dollars including fork.
I ride an old GTB and I like it, you can probably get a complete bike on ebay for less than 600 dollars. I can't think of any others - isn't it odd that all the cheap track frames out there are steel, and the expensive ones are aluminum? |

I have been watching eBay and I passed on that Pulse recently mostly because I didn't want to bother with unloading all the extra parts of a complete bike, but that is as close as I have seen to what I want in several months. Yeah, aluminum track frames are pretty rare. |
The Cannondale Optimo track frame looks HOTT-- matte black. We had two in the store that sold really fast-- but it has the integrated headset problem. I think they're also really hard to get- I can't even find info about them on the Cdale website.

isn't marinoni making custom alu track frame for $650 CAD?
Also, check terry dolan. |
The two bike on Chucks are pretty nice. The white one looks to be basically a Fuji Track Pro. Has all the little signs. The seatpost clamp, the sloping toptube, and the small rear triangle.

The red one, no, but a search of the forums will turn up a couple of people that did. I recall that were pleased. The pics on the site do not do the frames justice from the other pics that I've seen.

I'm really shocked no one has mentioned our good buddy Tony at IRO. They have a pretty nice aluminum track bike, available complete from $574.00, or as a frame and fork for $259.99. The geometry isn't as steep as some track bikes, but the frames are nice and IRO is one of the best companies you could ever hope to deal with. There's a fair number of IROs over at fixed gear gallery.

Total brain fade. IRO of course. Unless you are hitting the drome, the Jamie oy is a great frame/bike and allows lots of tire size options.

if you're gonna be this picky about it then you're gonna have a really hard time finding one...
i spent a long time searching for aluminum track frames and really only found a couple that were worth a ****... the one i ended up getting i've yet to see anywhere else, and have had a hell of a time just getting any information about it... also, the chainstays on most almuinum frames i've dealt with will bend easily and stress-free enough to put a narrower hub in the back... never touched an iro tho, so i can say for thems... |

That Leader Track frame looks like pooh. The Welding looks like it was done by someone who was blind (no offence to any blind welders who was reading this). The colour is kinda nice...and I am sure that as long as the colour is nice, the bike should ride fine! I also don't like the integrated headset idea. For me, the Jury was out on that design for a while...but now I feel like Chris King does....Where are we going to show a CK logo??? BLAH! Pooh. This frame is pooh. |
