Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

in my opinion if you aren't used to doing longer rides, but you've put a 1000 miles on your
brooks than it sounds like you need to break your butt in. seriously sitting in a saddle
for 1-2 hours or 5-6 hours a day will affect your trunk.

I've had it for a while and have put at least a thousand miles on this beast. Mostly frequent short rides, but what gives? Should i ditch it and call it quits? or should i expect to have something else for longer rides? It's the B17, it's made for long rides!

sorry to get slightly off topic, but does anyone know if it's kind of accurate to consider the Brooks B17 Narrow to be kind of the like "poor man's" Brooks Team Pro??
Seems that the main difference between the b17 and team pro is that the pro is narrower... am i wrong about this? This can be it's own thread.

To contribute to the discussion, I got the Performance Brand Forte PRo SLX saddle in the mail yesterday (much touted by Fugazi Dave) and I like it. It's only been a day, so I'm not totally sure, but it seems like it's going to work out okay, and it's only 35 bones right now. Ti rails. It only ways 195g. Cutout in the middle.

I'm not absolutely sure about this, but IIRC, Brooks uses a thicker leather for the Pro than for the B17. And there are different versions of the B17 as well. One has the small rivets, while the other has the same larger rivets that come on their more expensive models like the Pro and the Swift. I'd love to have a Swift, but that's just too much $$ at one time right now.
