bike names?

sorry if this has been done, I just realized my bikes had no owner given names, like Clarence Flipper or Denise, wondered if other people named their bikes, looking for inspiration.

isotopesope 07-06-05 07:36 AM

i named my pista 'sylvia'. i think that's my only named bike. i just call the rest of them by their manufacturer/builder's name... quite exciting. to make it even more exciting i stand up and put both arms in the air like i'm doing 'the wave'.

Aeroplane 07-06-05 08:21 AM

I named my mountain bike "Asshammer" because I wanted it to be tough and homoerotic.

jbonus 07-06-05 08:24 AM

Chasey because I love to ride her.

STEEKER 07-06-05 08:32 AM

mine are named Anytime

ImOnCrank 07-06-05 08:40 AM

Franchesca, or checka for short. She's an old peugeot (french hence franc part) and has the awesome peugeot old checker decal on her frame (hence checka).

emayex 07-06-05 08:52 AM

I've used the 'belle' names.

Anabelle.

Bonnie Belle.

Lulabelle.

Suzy Bell.

Jezebelle is my Kogswell Model F.

12XU 07-06-05 10:05 AM

Céline.

A French name for a Taiwanese made Italian bike (Bianchi).

80sMutRider 07-06-05 10:06 AM

I've been plagued with this question for the past month when I bought my new bike, sadly though, I still don't have a name. I guess it'll get a name when I'm out riding and it hits me. In that case I hope the name isn't Escalade, Hummer, or Mack.

jim-bob 07-06-05 10:24 AM

Cherrybomb.

The tank.

Cap'n America.

Titan.

Groucho.

"The soma."

DancesInTraffic 07-06-05 10:29 AM

Doomsday....thats the sticker on the top tube when i got the frame.

Mouton 07-06-05 10:30 AM

My old debernardi was "Princess"
I thought my new Bridgestone would be "Strong Bad" but the name hasnt stuck.

weed eater 07-06-05 10:40 AM

i have started calling my trek "the greyhound" cuz she is grey, and sleek, and o so speedy. the other bikes go by their marque, or sometimes "the cargo bike", "the folding bike", etc.

vobopl 07-06-05 10:45 AM

my fixie is Kou Tetsu (all the meanings/spellings are aproppriate :) ) others go by manufacturer names.

stronzo 07-06-05 10:47 AM

the gwerch (guerciotti)
the orange bike (unbadged french conversion)
the schwinn

i love my bikes, but i don't/can't really anthropomorphize them...that is, until they throw me. then it gets personal.

Less of a name, and more of a title: The Dominator

What's up with only having grips all the way at the tops of the bars? Seems like you'd be better off with a nice narrow pair of flat bars.

I tried flat bars, but I like all the useful curves of the full drop. I just spend the majority of the time on top.

chimblysweep 07-06-05 02:30 PM

my steamroller is sue.
my road bike hasn't earned a name yet (just 300 mi on her so far)
and my other bike is called beater, but not in her presence.

nylund154 07-06-05 02:40 PM

Silver bike = was The Coors Light, but is now Andre since someone put one of those "OBEY" stickers on it w/ Andre the Giant's picture.
White bike = The Shark (from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas)
the red one = The Schwinn (yeah, it gets no love).

I have another frame coming soon. Its a schwinn madison track and has yet to be named. I think it might get stuck with simply, "The Madison"

Bob Gabele 07-06-05 02:48 PM

"Shadow". The bike, a Scapin, is black, of course.

Grunk 07-06-05 02:57 PM

Mine have the most original names ever: White Bike, Blue Bike, Road Bike, and Raleigh.

zelah 07-06-05 03:14 PM

i have "the felt"/"the blue one"/"the road bike"

and

"the mercier"/"the black one"/"the fixed gear"

inthe_fall 07-06-05 03:43 PM

ive got "elizabeth" and "that black bike for which i cannot afford a fixed wheelset, damn"

Grimlock 07-06-05 03:46 PM

My pink late 80's Peugeot is named Esther Splett, after a friend of my girlfriend. She'll be a dream once she's fixed.
I haven't found anything I like for my Giant Boulder, but Fred seems to fit.
I haven't started restoring my lime green 70's SuperCycle but it will be Yves once I get around to it.

Wierd Beard 07-06-05 04:29 PM

My, sadly recently departed, fixie was called Picard. Not because I'm a Star Trek fan but the guy I inherited it from looked like him and that was his nickname. He was my climbing partner and I was kinda bummed that he emigrated to Oz so it was kind of a homage to him....

DrHansNoodleman 07-06-05 04:33 PM

Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjostr - named after the two goats that pull Thor's chariot.

Also Mjolnir, Colada and a Balmung.

sillygirl 07-06-05 05:19 PM

My Valentine, my beater, my MTB, and that thing I am gonna sell.
