yes there is a race monday night, barring heavy rain (light rain we should all show up and decide on the spot)
as always, 10pm 5av/60st by the elephants matt you should call me and we can meet up early? |
I'll be there shine only. Are we doing more laps this time?
|
more laps!?! jesus wept.
|
rain rain go away...
ugh |
I had a really good time last night.
Tyler and Olivier came in 1st and 2nd with some pretty amazing lap times (15:44 and 16:05). |
good times indeed!
i swear that if i do this long enough i will eventually be able to post a respectable time see everyone next week |
Race tonight- 10pm.
|
I heard we were going to do 14 laps.
|
Yeah I heard that too, and if enough people show up we can also have teams of 14.
|
sorry i missed it guys...been sick (i hate summer colds) and busy working till 930
ill be there next week |
Hey are we riding tonight?
|
noumena 9 and i will be there
|
well played race rats. Maybe next year i'll stick around til the 2nd lap.
|
so i will not be there the rest of this month
i figure that racing late monday night is not the best way to be getting ready for 16 hours of saving lives starting early tuesday morning...and i have 16 hour days EVERY tuesday this months bummer |
Anybody coming to race tonight at 10:00pm?
Would another day and time be better? How about Tuesday 8:00pm, 60th St and 5th Ave? |
Hey..anyone know if that red tailed hawk nested this year next to Woody Allen's high rise? -I just saw the documentary (from 1995) on PBS last night.
|
No, but I saw Woody Allen about 10 years ago in central park with his step lover. Where is that nest supposed to be?
Did anyone go to the race tonight? Who is up for Tuesday night races at 8:00pm? vivophobic has told me that this will work for him in october. Anyone else? |

I might be able to make it starting next week. I’m not 100% sure though, this semester is looking pretty rough.

Good god!
Digging up an old thread, I know. I'm simply very amazed at lap times of 15:44 and 16:00 on a fixed gear bike. I'm still pretty new at fixed riding and am looking to get my lap times down (18:45 and 57 minutes for 3 laps). Any suggestions? I'm on a 48x17.
Thanks for any responses! |

Thanks for any responses! Those are stout times indeed. I rode a bit last summer with a guy and we managed to push each other into the 16m30s-17m flat range for 4 laps, but we were both toast afterwards. 15m laps for a roadie is nothing special, given then have three hills to pick up alot of time in a huge gear. But fixed is another story. I ride 46x16, and had my frame builder build me a bike specifically for the park and that gearing, which I have found works really well for my legs and riding style. 46x14 is ideal for me for 3/4 of the lap, but a bear for the hills on Harlem, so the 16 cog was my compromise. I'm generally running 18-20m laps solo, sub 18m if I find a roadie to chase. 48x17, depending on your strength and fitness should be fine, a touch on the large size. It's close to my gear inch but the bigger ring up front probably takes a bit more to spin up. If you want someone to do some laps with drop me a PM. I'm out there most nights. |
I was stoked too after reading this post and was starting to mentally rearrange my schedule to try to come out some Monday night soon then I saw year of the posts and was bummed. I live in JC, but central park seems doable. PATH won't let you bring a bike on the train until after rush hour (which sucks).
