central park

so i know all about the prospect park races on thursday nights...and now that i oficially worked my last 10pm-6am shift and will be back to a daytime shift that will allow me to have a life AND ride/race more i fully intend on showing up to as many of the thursday races as i can

But here is my problem...i live all the way up in washington heights, which makes prospect park a 12-15 mile ride for me..definately a hike...i know that there have to be some other people at the race making similar trips

i was just wondering if there were enough manhattan/bronx/queens people (or BK people that would like another weekly race) that would be interested in doing a weekly central park race as well...of course it would be a different night...that way we can all still do the prospect park race...and we would have a choice of the long (6.something mile) loop or the short (3.something mile) loop

do you all have any interest in this?...please give me feedback!

right now it looks like mondays or fridays will most likely be best for me...probably mondays more so...maybe a 10pm start time...i envision starting at the enterance near the plaza hotel (5th av/60 st) and riding the full loop...possibly everyone chipping in a few (5?) bucks for a winner takes all pot?...but im also more than down for just racing for fun, since i am not wealthy and have never raced before

oh yeah...and i imagine it would go without saying sicne this is the fixed gear msg bored, but i will say it anyway...fixies only!

of course i am open to suggestions about any of this

As one of the guys who started to PP races... i would be down for CP races Monday nights- the only thing is that i dont think i have $7 a week to loose on racing and also the PP races are usually 2 laps = about 6.6 miles (about the length of the CP course. Just thought i would throw that out there- either way, i'd be down to race.

so so far it sounds like monday nights at 10pm are good for most people...i was thinking 1 lap, whcih is 6.2 miles...if that isnt enough maybe we could do 1 big loop and one small loop, which is about 10 miles or so

as for money i would actually prefer the race just for fun, with no money...i just thought i wold throw that idea in there before to see if it sparked any more interest

ok

I agree. **** Money. Loosers chip in to buy the winner a sixer. (btw, that will be a root beer for me...am i the only sXe here?...possibly)

Should we start tomorrow, 10 pm at the 60st/5av entrance? Or should we try and give it another week to build more interest and get more people there? Personally im down for tomorrow. If only 5 people show up i cant finish worse than fifth right?

Looks we at least have enough people able to show up tomorrow to at least get this thing kicked off!

10pm. 60st/5av entrance. I will have a read/black skull design bag, possibly chilling by the fountain in front of the plaza if i get there too early.

one lap or two? good question. i was thinking one originally, but two could also be cool. im down with whatever. vote here online? vote in person before the race?

i am personally encouraging anyone new to racing to come..especially since this will be the first race of any kind i will have been able to attend...cant wait!

I'll be there tomorrow. I might not have any cash because I'm super poor until friday but I'll throw in what I can. As far as laps go... I'm for whatever- we can always decide pending how many people show up. I'll try and get the guys I'm riding with tomorrow morning to come as well.

central park is very well lit throughout most/all of the park...i have never used a front light riding through at night...the only part that may be a tad dark is the uphill section going south from the 7av/110st...but im pretty sure that is light as well...its all lit with standard street lights..though they are spaced a bit further apart than the rest of the city...think suburbs

also...im not sure what the weather is going to be like tomorrow...are people willing for this to be rain or moonshine?...im down for biking in a drizzle...not sure about a downpour
