Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

how about calorie wise etc etc.. i work for Jimmy Johns as a messenger 40 hours a week... and make about 30-50 deliveries in the summer and more like 60-100 deliveries during the school year... thats in about a 7 hour shift...

i think collectively i eat about 3000-3500 calories a day... and try and eat a 500 cal meal every 3 hours or so...

i eat anything too... mostly healthy though... dont eat alot of red meat.. .mostly fish and chicken... and alot of grains... i love smoothies from Smoothie King too... had one today... mmm i feel like a fat kid trapped in a skinny kids body...

my great grandmother used to raise chickens, and she'd name em. then when it came time, she'd slaughter em. after she slaughtered em though she'd still remember who was who, so she'd shuffle em around in the freezer for a while before eating them.

Mostly fresh, mostly low fat, but not fanatical about it. Not much fast food, but greater than zero.

on weekends i regularly burn 3000 -- 6000 calories per workout (usually running, riding a little less often), and keep fueled with a mix of boiled potatoes and salt (my favorite) clif bars, and gu.

i'll eat a big, carb-heavy breakfast befor i take off, and then eat something with a lot of protein (legumes usually) when i get back.

it's worked great so far.

ive been riding every day for the past 2 years now... almost 30-40 or more miles a day so i started paying attention to what i was eating more.. when i eat more times per day i feel much better as far as riding and recovering each day..

yeah, i eat about 6 times a day as well, more, smaller meals seem to work better for me than fewer bigger ones.

i used to eat a bunch of protein too... but i never really noticed much difference... so i kind of quit doing it consciously... but i suppose my arms are turning into hot dog arms.. thats kind of typical though....

besides running and riding, i also climb and teach a fitness class, so i'm doing some kind of exercise at least once a day. if i don't properly my body lets me know about it pretty quickly.

a nice benefit of eating well is that i feel pretty good almost all the time, and recover from tough workouts quickly.

weedeater: seaweed emulsion is a vegan, natural, organic alternative to other fertilizers, though I would understand if you were to question its sustainability. here in the land of 10,000 lakes (actually more like 15,000, but I guess that didn't have the alliterative qualities so sought after by license plate committees), it doesn't seem be in short supply.

--------

dollface, etc: i hear that in general, regardless of how much you ride, work out, etc., that more and smaller meals are preferable to few and large. this is nice for me, as someone with high metabolism and a love of eating but a recent love handle development. perhaps less beer? probably not.

-----

yeah, to be honest i never got into moss icon OR indian summer. and that still life 2xlp (not to mention the tracks on the 48th parallel cd) was pretty awful. but they were good live, i have to say that.

i think i saw rainer maria in that same basement, which seems funny now, if only to me.

---------

less calorie counting, more riding.

I'm a most-ivore. I eat almost anything, except pork. I like meat but have some qualms about the way meat is raised and slaughtered these days.

I very much enjoy growing my own vegetables. In fact I always time my spring visit home so that I can help my mom plant her vegetable garden. When I was a little kid, lima beans were one of my favorite foods. Cauliflower is a staple for me

I'm sorry bo, but I disagee. being a steaktaco guarantees my status of authority on such matters as steaks, tacos, and, especially, steak tacos.

I say the best taco in chicago is La Pasadita (the one in the middle — there are 3 next to each other) by ashland and division. if you go you have to try the "black" roasted pepper salsa. hmmmmmm.

second best taco place in town is fogo de chao. even though they don't have tacos they have excellent meat, served on swords, and probably the best salad bar.

BTW — more relevant to this post — I am a red-meat-loving vegetarian who eats a good portion omega-3-fatty-fish every couple of days. and I rocked my cholesterol test.

eating different foods is an experience I enjoy. only thing I didn't like was lung from a dimsum in philly. though I have yet to try it in chicago.
