Nitto brakes
 

Ok so i placed an order for some Nitto track drops (and as whenever i buy stuff from ebay i wonder if the person posts here, but back to the point). I currently run i guess road drops with 2 brake hoods but only a front brake. I want to keep the front brake i have but am wondering the best way to do this. I will probably be dropping down to 1 brake setup. Are all brakes compatible with other types of levers (example: can my road style lever setup be exhanged for bmx levers?)? or do i need to find an aesthetically pleasing way to put one road lever on nitto bars (yes i know lots of you would object to any brakes on track bars but thats not my question)

if you change to a flat-bar style lever you have to switch the brake cable as the end is a little barrel and not a top-hat. unless you buy "cyclocross" style secondary levers- you can use your current brake cable as long as it's long enough. i used a bmx lever w/ a road caliper just fine.

From what I understand (and I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong), road brakes can use just about any levers because they have such a short pull. V-brakes require mountain or BMX levers, because they have a long pull, and road levers don't pull enough cable. Hence the popularity of canti's for cyclocross, where road levers are the norm, but mountain-style brakes are necessary.

aeroplane is right on the brake-lever-to-caliper compatibility issues. The other issue you may run into is handlebar diameter; MTB bars are generally narrower tubes than road bars. I assume track bars are basically the same size as road bars in this respect but I don't know. Anyway, some MTB levers are too small to fit on road bars. But the recommended CX "inline" lever is designed for road bars and works great. You should be able to use your existing cable and caliper as they are, since the cx lever will take less cable than the road lever.
