Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I'm looking to get back into fixed gears so I got this one for free. It is really crappy, but super fun. The bike shop was planning on just throwing it away in a dumpster. I will pick up some straps on Monday.

Free is good and retention is good! Enjoy the experience!

I am planning on putting drop bars on this one and night and nicer cranks as well. There are a lot of bike paths where I live that are pretty flat that are perfect for a fixed gear.

If your switching to drop bars you might need a longer crank to get your hands over the front axle and improve the steering

You meant longer Stem, not crank. That looks like a freestyle frame, so putting drops on it will change things, but it's nothing major. And yes, you will probably want to go with a longer stem like a 100mm at a minimum I would think.

I was planning on getting a longer stem as the BMX structure won't even fit with drop bars.

That stem does make more sense and I think the rando bars are a gtreat choice for this build - looks fun and comfortable.

Looks like you have been fiddling with the position of the bars and are bringing a lock.

which means your riding it.

nice.

I didn't notice the powergrips? (Foot retention) before - I've heard conflicting reports. How do you like them?

Cool.

Hope your enjoying getting back to fixed gear riding. There are a lot of nice cycle configurations out there but for my money the fixed drive train is a special joy.

A lighter bike will be more agile, responsive and accelerate faster but this bike will give you powerful legs if your consistent and fuel properly...

Enjoy it!

It's actually not as heavy as it looks.

That’s how they hook you. Soon enough, you’re gonna be in there looking to drop money on a spiffy new whip. Canny bastards.
