Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

well, the next question would be whether you want to run true track cranks or just run road cranks. as for track cranks, check out https://www.businesscycles.com/trcomp.htm#crankset the stronglight and miche track cranks are the least expensive... a few people on the board use the miche's. i don't think anyone has a real complaint about them, except the propriatary bcd. ta-alize is another manufacturer that makes inexpensive track cranks.

some people have used dotek bmx cranks. they're dirt cheap and use a standard iso taper bottom bracket, which are easily obtained.

i would suggest scouring ebay for cranks too. you'll want them 170mm to 165mm on a fixed gear.

I picked up a Shimano 105 square taper crank on ebay. FC-1050. I just need to use a 107mm bottom bracket to have the chainline match up with the cog. Same with the Sora cranks you might see on ebay. Sheldon Brown says they are the same cranks, just different chainrings (steel opposed to aluminum)
