Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bikes: (2) ti TiCycles, 2007 w/ triple and 2011 fixed, 1979 Peter Mooney, ~1983 Trek 420 now fixed and ~1973 Raleigh Carlton Competition gravel grinder

As set up for flat ground riding. Only using the middle and inside chairings. Current DS cog is an 18; flipped around so it lines up with the 42 middle, not the 46 outer. NDS is the 17-21 double. (This was for a ride with a 20 mile bike trail along a RR route. Bridge over a ravine was out so it was steep with switch backs on both sides.) 35 miles to and again from the path so it was a long day.

Triple - the three chainrings. (46, 42, 35) Fix-fix - a double sided track hug, fix gear with lockring on both sides. (The double cog is a regular 21 tooth cog flipped around and a 17 tooth with the center cut out so it slides over typical "bell" threaded part of the 21 tooth cog. Brazed on with a washer between, Used with a lockring as usual.

Edit: you can see the Pedros Trixie fix gear tool under the seatback, protruding forward. Good 15mm wrench plus an excellent lockring spanner that works far better than the usual plate steel shop wrenches on the bell shaped 12 tooth lockrings.

Thanks, that looks quite creative and functional.
Nice bike, but my old body could not ride those bars.
That's a long drop, reach.
Good for you!

Bikes: 90s Fisher Celerity mtb, Reid 1x7 utility, Viva 45x18 fg, 93 Avanti rb, 70s pac-rim 46x17 ss

Top is a utility fg from Evo Cycles here in NZ. Upgrades include the trunkbag/rack combo, Brooks B17 saddle and grips, cup holder and coffee cup. The gearing is stock 45x18. Use it for errands and coffee dates w/my girl. She rides her upgraded Reid 1x8 from Evo Cycles.

Bottom is a 70s Pac-Rim ss conversion. It's got an old 46t RocketRing which became Origin8. 17t generic freewheel. KMC 1/8" chain. This is the bike I've been riding the most, lately. Have done 8-10 Bike Boom conversions and this is by far my favorite. It's tight and responsive. Put 35mm Kenda Street tires on i run at 100 psi. Btw, I'm 72 and have been riding fg since 2004.
