135mm spacing rear hub & crank BB options

So I’m looking at picking up a Squid SO-EZ frame and I noticed the rear spacing is 135, instead of 120. They have a few very specific build recommendations for BB, crank, hub, but I’m worried if these are so specific because it’s really all the options on there?

does anyone have any thoughts/recommendations for a 135 single speed rear hub? Or a wheelset that has one that’s affordable? (~$300?)

and how this affects my options for a BB & crank?

Seems like the issue is chainstay clearance near the BB for big tires, so they went to wider crank spacing to accomplish chainring clearance around the wider chainstays. That made a wider hub necessary.

Seems like spacing the crank out is no big deal, but fixed gear wide hubs are a problem you can't fix with a longer axle. There are at least two acceptable hubs right now - what is it that you are concerned about?

The other way to go is to just go single speed instead of fixed and then you can use a common cassette hub. That somewhat future-proofs the frame.

Agreed with Kontact
if you don’t want to get a spendy hub & wheel…

… using any 135mm cassette hub and just use one cog. Or add spacers and have a single cog.

Surly might be less spendy….

of course finding an off the shelf option could prove challenging.

Yeah I won’t be doing fixed, it’ll be a single speed freewheel.
