How much is worth this colnago frame?
#1
Hola, I'm new to the forums although I've been lurking for a while
I'm looking to build my first fixie and have found this frame and fork from a local seller. It's a Colnago Master with columbus spiral SLX tubing. Seller says it's in very good condition.
I love the straight chromed fork
It's hard to find a good frame with horizontal dropouts in here, others I've seen are Alu-cheapy-rubish-ugly painted ones : \ What's your opinion? How much is it worth? I could get it without shipping costs.
Thx!

from the graphics I am guessing it is approximately 10 years old. Is the seller willing to sell the frame only? If not, what are the components? Is it campy or shimano?
Another option--check e-bay. You can find colnago frames and get a sense of what they are selling for.
One thing to be aware of w/colnago--the paint tends to chip off rather easily. If that is the case with this bike--check to see if the owner patched it up. (On my steel colnago I have patched it w/dabs of bike paint and nail polish to prevent rust). This is just to ensure that there is no rust.
I am not sure what the going rate for a used colnago is in Europe. So, find out what year the bike was built and whether it could be a frame only sale.
Honestly, if I were to sell my 2000 colnago classic (frame only) I would ask $500 USD to start (as it is well maintained, no rust, etc.). The Master is the "next step up" in the colnago line so could get more depending on the condition, etc.

That bike is sweet and yearns for DT shifters. Spiral SLX, yeah!
Seriously, that looks to be in really good condition and the seller will probably want way more than it's worth given that it looks to be fitted with nice bits.
I guess if I were to take a shot at a reasonable market price for the frame and fork alone, I wouldn't go higher than $200. It might very well be able to move for more than that, but I wouldn't pay it. I'm no Italian snob and there are lots of quality frames under less assuming marques.

He asked me 300€ for frame and fork (370$) although he said we could negotiate.. so, maybe 250€.

250 Euro is probably not an unreasonable price if you could talk him down (I'd even written $250 above initially), but I don't think I could do it. Have you looked at ebay.es?

Just a caveat before I get totally slammed and flamed for my overpriced quote--I admit I overvalue my colnago. It took years of test riding and saving the dough to built this ride.
Be gentle on me, I am an old cyclist who is just trying to age gracefully and whose knees needs gears.

That is a beautiful bike and would be a great race bike *as is*. To convert it to ss or fixed would be like welding a deraileur hanger onto a classic track frame, putting cable routing braze-ons, and drilling the classic unicrown fork for a brake.

Oh baby, keep that one as is! Too damn beautiful.
I'm off to find NOS and check the european eBay for Colnago's...

if you want a nice fixie, then buy a real track frame. (not running for cover)

On ebay.es there's right now only 1 frame, and it's a MTB one... never seen a track one or a useful to convert road one
You guys are lucky having so many parts avaible on ebay.com. On ebay.fr and ebay.co.uk there are more parts, but again, not as comfortable and fast as getting it localy
I'll talk to the seller and try to down a bit more the price... I won't mind riding this one as a converted, if he's selling parts.. why don't profit the oportunity? Who knows.. maybe one day she will be a roadie again!
I'll tell you if I finally got it

Dude that is a sweet, sweet machine, buy it and ride it geared. Specially if it's got a nice group. Or if I was you, I'd save my cash and find a Colnago track frame and build that up instead.

The problem is that Colnago steel track frames are hard to find because of limited production runs. When someone finds a NOS or used, they're more than likely not willing to pay what it should be worth if they were in the market for a conversion in the first place.

I didnt say the NOS go for 300. but thats why they dont sell. thats how I got my titanium one.
was on the website for almost a year.
nice one here, no bidders yet:

this one went for 353 euros:

What's the deal, these are all road frames. Where's the track at?

Holy crap! Those bikes are CHEAP! Dang, you can't get a deal like that here.
Steel too heavy to race? Maybe. A lot of people are still racing steel, especially in CX. Maybe it's too heavy when you're a top elite competitor, but for the average amateur racer it's the engine that matters most.
