PHX Riders? Where are you?

As it stands, I've seen ONE person on a fixed conversion out here... no track bikes yet.

I've been going on rides with tons of random clubs in PHX, Tempe, Scottsdale.

Where is everyone???

I'm here!

I commute daily on my fixed conversion, but ride on weekends with clubs on multigeared bike. Too many of the club rides go on South Mountain type hills for the fixed.

I have never seen another fixed on the road (but have seen two locked up near ASU), but I don't ride round college campus much and don't pay much attention to other folks bikes.

You don't see that may bike commuters outside of the college campus area, but I do see several every day on my commute. I think I see more in the summer than in the winter when it is more comfortable (but dark) to ride.
But on weekend mornings, I'll join a club ride (some clubs get well over 100 riders at a time) and when on these rides I see lots of other riders not part of the group, both in small groups and in other larger clubs. Some Sat. mornings on some of the more popular roads areas I see far more bikes than cars, some places a near endless stream of bikes.

Ha ha. I just got diagnosed with either gastritis or a minor peptic ulcer... no alcohol, just riding.

There are a few in Tempe, it's true. And there may or may not have been a race last weekend, but I'm not saying. And I know of at least one besides me in Phoenix proper. He rides an Olmo conversion, so that would be very proper in my book.

I commute from Phoenix to ASU every day (sometimes twice, as necessitated by work) on my fixed Surly Crosscheck. I carry a lot of extra t-shirts and two water bottles full of ice. Except after dark, when I switch to Scotch.

Dan, who organized the Structure Scramble race which happened last Saturday is ALWAYS on his bike in Tempe. Orange KHS.

He's putting together another race for Halloween, I think.

Fixed will finally be ready beginning of October. Then I'll be on the streets too. Old Town Scottadale now, soon to be at Pointe Tapatio.

Benko: did you race that night? I'm the old(ish) guy on the red bike whose kid showed up after the race. I finished 5th, narrowly beaten out by the chugging capabilities of Elder Whitesnake.

My fixie frame is supposed to be coming back from paint sometime this week. It's pink with polished stainless lugs, more of a road geometry than track geometry because, well, I'm not riding it on a track. It's also got 650c wheels because I'm 5'1" and would like to be able trackstand without some sort of toe overlap crashing disaster.

I only have about half the parts for it so far, but I'll probably be using it for my commute from downtown Tempe to Mesa for work. I might run it singlespeed for a while just to figure out an optimum gear ratio, as I don't know what my tolerance for riding 6 miles into a headwind after work happy hour is yet.

I think I've seen Danimal around... I'm still surprised to see people on fixies here after living in Boston and SF for a while.

The anarcho-family will be at Tour de Fat as well. Danimal and John (IRO, speedo, roadie-tan) clued me in to the fact that if you volunteer down there for two hours, you drink free the rest of the day. Not such a good idea for me, especially with effectively limitless Fat Tire available.

Oh, and on the 22nd, it's on yet again. Are you racing this time, Ben?
