So do I. Out of all the repeated questions around here--which are part of the game as far as I'm concerned--nobody since Merton has asked about where you can get a 75t chainring ... so you can go like 75mph on a fixie. Nobody.

In My Humble Opinion, the questions don't seem as stupid to the person who doesn't know anything as they do to the person who knows everything.

Generally, the more experienced folk leave the stupid questions alone, allowing those halfway between Newbie and Old Salt to answer them and thus gain more expertise.
Personally, I learn something new every time I answer a stupid question.
Every time.

I think I remember going through a phase where I made fun of people who asked stupid questions.
I mean, I've done every other rude, self-centered and inconsiderate thing imaginable, so why not make fun of newbies?
After all, it makes me feel bigger and stronger when other people look smaller.
Human nature, eh?

How ironic.
By the act of addressing behavior I have engaged in the same behavior.
Hm.
A pattern? :)

Thanks. My post was a wry attempt to point out something similar that failed, you put it much better. :)

Keep riding those bikes, and remember to stay humble everyone.

peace,
sam

Patterns for making up to 92t chainrings in any of several BCDs. You can make them from sheet aluminum with a punch, a drill press, a hacksaw and a file. Have fun.

Just for kicks I looked up my first questions from back in the day
and I'm proud to say there are some gems:

good rides in Boston? LBS?
Can I use bacon grease on my bike?
Is there anything on a TdF bike that costs less than $10?
How do I get this #$%$# lockring off? (2x)

What's kind of cool is seeing how many people are still around
165's answer to question #2 cracked me up yet again, and
sadly I still don't know if I can use bacon grease instead of phil's

Ah, the knowledge. It's amazing how cleverness and stupidity can intertwine. Merton would've been proud.

Here's mine:

I need to work on my spin, do you guys think 53x11 is a good gear? I live in a really hilly area and i have no brakes. Oh, and i don't know how to skid or skip either, you think this gearing will make it easier for me to stop?

Did you read my user name?
will you answer my question?

Do pista riders get to pick on the lastest me too offerings from Trek, cannondale and Specialized?

Bring me the head of Paul Franks on a silver pista!

crushkilldstroy 08-22-05 10:59 PM

how about a serious stupid question....

how do you make it so that damned confirm question doesn't come up on private messages?

HereNT 08-22-05 11:13 PM

You can't make it not come up, but if you just say no when it asks if you want a read receipt, the other person doesn't get that message...

JUST SAY NO to read receipts!!!!!

Crap, I just asked for one...

"Why do you only get half a piece of cheese on a Filet o' Fish?"
(Then, after the thread gets moved to "Foo,"-)
"Why did you move my thread? You mods are worse than the Third Reich."
(Then it goes on for 5 pages, with everyone taking potshots at the mods they don't like, before the thread is locked.)

HereNT 08-22-05 11:15 PM

Oh, and you can hit the confirm before you hit reply, too. That just brings up the little confirm window, and you don't even have to reply, you just let them know that you read it...

Am I clever for getting very unique and stylish handlebars by mounting a pair upside down and cutting them off?
