Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Ouch.

To be fair, those brain sieves have a tough indo skeleton to hold it together.

So less foam + more carbon = same holding power. The deceleration however, is where having a bmx style helmet comes in handy.

You are right to a certain extent though, cpsc and snell safety standards specify the MINIMUM that a helmet can handle. A TT helmet might just meet the minimum safety standards while a bmx helmet can meet and greatly exceed it.

Hola... I'm glad you're ok. I just bought a helmet. Never wore one before, but my brother up in Seattle was just hospitalized last weekend after getting hit by a car and his helmet was smashed. Saved his head. He called me up and begged me to start wearing one. So I went and bought an expensive Giro Pneumo, since I knew that if I spent enough money on the damn thing I'd feel guilty and wasteful if I didn't wear it. I also wanted something that wouldn't feel too uncomfortable. There are so many vents it feels like it funnels MORE air onto my head. Weird. And it's not too heavy. So, I'm glad I got it. I've been wearing it for a couple days now and have endured sneers from other fixed gear riders in Oakland, but c'est la vie.

I prefer looking like a geek with a helmet--maybe this is silly but when
I see someone with a helmet riding their bike I take them more seriously,
at least more seriously than the packs of kids I see walking and occassionally
riding their bikes around town, they'd look better swinging from their white
belts--

Congrats on not being a ****** and wearing your lid. Just makes my recent helmetless riding that much less excusable. Modern helmets are a godsend.

Also - that's awesome that you still have all your teeth.

Bikes: Ebay Bikes... =)

german novelty helmet... - meets and exceeds all safety standards for non-living people.

Bonus - it makes for great conversation at bars or just gets people to hate you for being a nazi-wannabe or perhaps an anti-semite....

Just 9.99 !!!
