Skidstrong
I was cruising the FGG today and saw a new banner: www.skidstrong.com
Some Gaansari Cyclery-affiliated folks in Ohio are coordinated enough to get a bunch of those colored bracelets, some seats from On-one, Chrome bags, and other bike stuff together. They slap the skidstrong logo on it, and sell it to you. Some prices are slightly inflated, but most proceeds are donated to the Bicycle Messengers Emergency Fund. Other products include wool jerseys, stickers, Pro-Tec helmets, coffee, wheelsets(!) and a signature track frame(!!). I might get a jersey if I don't spend too much on the bikes I have now... |
i dunno, if it didnt have the -strong part

I've seen the Gaansari stuff (company behind Skidstrong). I like some of their stuff, but I don't like when people mix religion with their business. From the Gaansari website:
Our Beliefs "The world needs individuals: who cannot be bought; whose word is their bond; who put character above wealth; who possess opinions and a will; who are larger than their vocations; who do not hesitate to take chances; who will not lose their individuality in a crowd; who will be as honest in small things as in great things; who will make no compromise with wrong; whose ambitions are not confined to their own selfish desires; who will not say they do it `because everybody else does it'; who are true to their friends through good report and evil report, in adversity as well in prosperity; who do not believe that shrewdness, cunning, and hard-headedness are the best qualities for winning success; who are not ashamed or afraid to stand for the truth when it is unpopular; who can say `no' with emphasis, although the rest of the world says `yes.'" ~ Ted W. Engstrom, The Making of A Christian Leader, 1976. Purpose Statement To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us. To have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Cycles Gaansari. |
Doesn't really make a difference to me. I wish that all bike shops (hell, all shops) had that kind of attitude about their work. Whether it's doing a great job and having integrity in order to glorify God, Allah, Yahweh, Thor, or the Flying Spaghetti Monster, it's still them doing a great job. And that benefits me, the customer.

the whole "r u skidstrong" thing is not so sweet.

these armband's trendiness is what makes them effective for raising money. if it's for a good cause i say buy one and where it. someone will see it and ask you about it and maybe buy one themselves, repeat repeat repeat... some snobs will think you trendy and some money will be raised.
|
agree with skelly, it's trendy but it's a good cause. I'm not one to wear any sort of wristband or even a watch but I do wear a livestrong band most of the time. Whats a dollar, even if you don't wear it, the money still goes to a good foundation that does good things. It might look corny or trendy to wear it, but I know why I personally wear it and thats all that matters.

that flying spaghetti monster thing is awesome dude. that's what this post should be about!

What they are doing is great, but the name is boring and uninspired. Skidstrong? What does it mean, that your undies have remarkable stain resistant qualities? For a better choice, check out http://www.livewrong.net/. They are affiliated w/ Drunk Cyclist , 'nuff said.

Is it me, or are those wheels really overpriced? $375 for formula hubs laced to deep vees?

If those are formula hubs with deep Vs for $375 he should be beaten with a stick! You can build a phil wood with deep v set for about $20 more, for the same even if you don't care about color. That's a rip-off even his God would get updset about. |

I don't. Yet, I  everytime I use the rim brake on my silver Shamal.
|
is it me or is their something just a little bit off with this whole skidstrong/gaansari operation. nothing major and I'm sure they are nice people but just how is a company founded in 2002 (by a marketing company) "old school"? The xtian page is a bit excessive too, sort of like their lugs...
