Perforated vs. Smooth cover saddles
Any real difference?
Selle Italia turbos, and other saddles come in both perforated and smooth cover versions.
Is there any difference between the two varieties? Comfort?

I have perf and non-perf saddles, including both versions of the turbo, and I think the perf ones breathe better. On the other hand, they soak up water when your bike is outside sitting in the rain.

perforated just looks sweet. especially on my bike with the perforated black leather, carbon fiber parts and carbon style tape. They just play off eachother like some kind of well tuned machine.
edit of note: I may be biased as I have 2 pairs of perforated leather shoes, and a perforated leather jacket.

I have found that my perf leather saddle shreds the crotches of my jeans much faster than a smooth saddle.
That said, they look tough.

Duh! The holes in the leather save 0.23 grams! It's all about shaving the weight.
But seriously, I think it's just for looks. Leather itself is breathable, so i'm not sure if the holes actually do much.
I think perforated white saddles look nice on old road bikes..
Also, cheap saddles are never perforated, so it has the effect of making your saddle look expensive

i just got a non-perforated turbo, and i slide back and forth on it a little. this'll probably get better as it gets gunked up, though. i like the idea of a nice smooth white saddle getting real dirty as it gets used as a theft deterrent.
