Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I just had the idea of one becoming an authorized notary which might be useful if you are running a small company. While it isn't usually something a courier company could offer, I think it might be a *perk* if you have your own small business and this would be good for people that have difficulty leaving the house or would otherwise need assistance.

Arrive. Authorize. Deliver.

Just an idea ... I have no idea what it takes to become an authorized notary though.

Yep, being a saleman sucks, Im not much of one really, although most have told me I look like I mean business so it hasnt really been an issue so far, im 39yrs old that helps, Im not some inexperienced punk kid, I do it for a living. still, you can be the world's greatest courier and still not have work, convincing folks can be tough, but once you have them its much tougher to lose them.

best places for work are places that either have lots of it, or are unhappy with who they use now
title companies
small law firms
small realestate agencies
court reporting agencies
public relations/advertising firms
non profits like the United Way or local YMCA.......no Im not kidding, some of the best clients are the non profit agencies, they dont care about price that much cause they write it off

try those first, and stick to the small companies, big ones wont likely talk to you unless someone there gets you in first

If your gonna do court filings learn the ropes from someone first if possible, they take some experience. Sometimes you may have to make decisions and do things for law clients that are way beyond just basic package deliveries. If you can, charge them per filing too, thats where the money is. Walking into a courthouse with $50 worth of work that takes 1/2hr to do is easy money. Law firms typically charge each client and dont pay for what your doing, but accurate knowledgable service is a must, most paralegals have never even filed something before, and the law doesnt always jive with the actual procedure in a court house. For example, here, case dismissals under article 41a should be an in/out no problem filing, they arent, they need terminated by a bailiff or judge first, which means an extra step, this is important.

quick thought: if you want to consult w/a lawyer, check w/the local law school. The one I attend provides free legal service to new businesses. (the Law students are supervised by practicing corporate attorneys and/or a faculty advisor.)
