Chicago - ride this week?
We need to take advantage of this weather while we can. There are probably only 2-3 weeks loft of really comfortable riding where you don't have to alternate between a tshirt and a hoody depending on how hard you're riding!
I'd like to pick a day that most people will be able to come. It looks like Monday or Tuesday are our best bets (according to weather.com). So I'll throw out Monday, 8:30pm, Milwaukee/Damen/North on the corner where the doubledoor is (are we seeing a trend?) Who's in? |
not to be "that" guy, but...
the BEST weather is still to come here in Chicago! think about it we've got: - Chicago Cyclocross Cup http://www.chicrosscup.com/ - Tour Da Chicago http://www.tour.chicago.il.us/ - CM:Santa Rampage http://www.chicagocriticalmass.org/ - Tons of other Bike Winter events http://www.bikewinter.org/ - and of course amazing trails which are pretty much owned by bikers and the few hardy runners who are some of the nicest people (especially the couple who helped me out a few years ago when I fell in the lake, d'oh!). If you're only going to ride when it is "nice" out then why live in Chicago? You might as well move to LA LA land where they hide away at 60 degrees (j/k Southern Californians you guys have the PCH and Topanga Canyon which is killer) Happy Riding! jeff

me likes riding in nice weather.. even more than crappy weather.
i'm in! any ideas for routes? |
I plan on riding in the winter but like most people I enjoy riding the most in those few weeks at the beginning and end of summer when the temp of the air feels like the temp of your body.
|
it's really fun when the camelbak tube freezes.
|
peter - Camelbak makes tube insulators!
I don't have any ideas for routes but I am thinking maybe we could go North this time? Maybe to Andersonville or Rogers Park? Are there any beaches up there we could go chill on and then ride home? So far these are the people attending: me Joe (schloe mo) Arielle (this girl i emailed off craigslist because she made a critical mass missed connection) Mariana (arielle's friend) Gretel (arielle's friends) The girls are outnumbering the boys! This has to be a first! |
how about
armitage east> southport or something north> go way uptown> hit lakefront path back to downtown> ....etc. ? |
Also - if anyone wants I can bring a bunch of Labatt Light in my bag. My parents visited me a couple of weeks ago and left about 15 of em.
|
Joe - that sounds great to me
|
*sniff... the parents i never had. your parents canadian? or just incredibly cool?
|
Hilarious. My whole family is Canadian. I was born in Montreal and raised in Toronto. Parents lived in Nova Scotia, Edmonton, Ottawa, Montreal before I was around.
So my parents are Canadian AND incredibly cool! |
aha... my wife was born in quebec city.. we go to montreal often... what a cool city. the bike lanes there are truly innovative, from a yank's perspective.
oh and by the way, labatts is OK, but cannot compare to perhaps the greatest thing to come out of french canada: LA FIN DU MONDE. fer real. |
I have yet to try La Fin Du Monde because I can only find it in the huge bottles! To be honest I am a lightweight and if I could find it in 12oz bottles I'd be a happy guy.
I hear that Hopleaf at 5148 N Clark sells it in small bottles but I'm not positive. |

yup it's big and it's like 8% alcohol or more. plus it has a cork. that rocks.
|
Back to the point of this thread.
Who else is coming on this ride? |
Keep it local...with only a few exceptions, the Map Room on Armitage has everything that the Hopleaf has--and Mondays, $1 off Belgians.
I hope I can make it on this ride...not positive yet. |
Nat you better be there. When you see Courtney tomorrow you need to get her to come too.

I will probably do this, but I'm not positive yet!
If we went north we should go to Simon's...One of my favorite bars that I never get to go to. Although, it is better in the winter when they sell Glogg! |
and during MidSommer - they sell GLOGG SLUSHIES!!!!
|
If people want to stop and have a drink at a couple of places along the way they can, but I will have some beer in tow for the people who wanna chill outside and brown bag it.
salome, 165 - are you in? Where is absntr? |
i'm a maybe. a poor maybe.
schloe, it was nice to meet you today! now that you're hooked i hope we'll be seeing more of you. |
is this for single speeders / fixies only?
I havn't made the full conversion... yet, my LeTour is derailer less, but it still has the gears (ballast?) and it's not up for a long ride. |
