my sweet baby peleton got stripped of bars, stem, saddle and seatpost while i was watching 'a sunday in hell' at the victoria on 16th st.
stem was a alu nitto 100mm, and i don't expect to see it again. bars were nitto 123aa's, 38cm, and i'll recognize them if i see them.
seatpost was a ritchey nothing i don't care about, saddle was kind of special, it was (is) an ariake aero jaguar, and i've never seen one before. i'd like to get it back if at all possible.

whats ****ed up is that the thief was a bicyclist...

bums -- the ones usually doing the stealing around here -- only steal whole bikes they can actually ride and dump off for $$$. only someone who knows something would jack parts

i had someone steal my NOS fluted dura-ace seatpost and selle flite titanium saddle from my bike... the front quick-release wheel was left alone... bums and/or kids and/or drunks dont walk around with hex-wrenches........

Sorry man, hope you find the fu**ers and get your stuff back. Its sad that whoever took your stuff is most likely a biker, if not a fixie rider. What a total ******bag to take from a fellow rider just so you can have parts to bling up your own pos. good luck retreaving your things.

I can't believe somebody stole a quill stem! It took me half an hour of hammering the screw head to get mine out... Anyway, sorry to hear that.

I remember having my handlebars taken from my MTB while in New Haven many years back while doing work at a campus computer center. The thief cut all the cables and removed the stem/handlebars.

That was one long and sorry ass walk back home.

That Peleton is one great looking bike...damn shame.

is most likely a biker? this happened at the bicycle film festival screening, wtf no organized parking? i'd gladly toss in another couple bucks to have a parking area set up, isn't that the kind of stuff those bike coalition guys live for?

SFBC _DID_ have parking set up. Galen set off on his own and parked to a well-lit pole across the street. Bummer.

VERY sorry to hear that. i know yr pain. I had my baby jacked here in Spain 2 months ago. my ass hasnt been on a bike since. still bummed.

still haven't built the cx bike, it was pre-empted by the peleton. guess i shuld have waited on that :o

thanks everybody, for your sympthy. i know i'm not the first one to have stuff jacked, and lord knows i won't be the last, but it's really heartening to see folks posting here.
(and at least i still have most of the bike.)

everything except the saddle can, and will, be replaced. if anyone has suggestions for a comfy njs saddle please let me know.

no, i didn't, because i am a MO-RON. i parked across the street, right under a streelight because i was worried about my baby getting scraped in the ginourmous pile-o-bikes in the valet area.

my quick theft protection.

i do it for stem, bars and seatpost. once you're sure about the position of your components, fill the hole up with superglue and drop a ball bearing in there.

if you want to adjust it, you can knock it out with an awl in about 30 seconds. your average bike thief out to jack some components is probably just carrying an allen set and when he finds he can't stick his wrench in there, will probably move on.

it's not the best, but it's something.

Is this a NJS approved theft prevention measure?

about a year ago i had somthing similar happen to me since then ive been filling all my allen key holes with crazy glue....no bike thief is gonna wanna fumble around trying to get that **** out....

How does one go about removing the glue when you need to change a part? Just chisel away at it?

it chips out pretty easily with a small, sharp tool.

I just got back from the Victoria, at least 70+ bikes were chained up in front, but once the show was out it was a trust-based 'take your bike' system. I took mine and nobody even questioned it- I wonder how easy someone else could've? There were some PRICEY machines in that pile.
