I've been thinking about getting one of these frames, and I was wondering if somebody could measure standover height for the 54 and/or 56 cm frames. I would really appreciate it.

I used the book-in-crotch-against-wall technique to measure my inseam of 33 inches. Unfortunately I can't get anywhere to be sized for a track bike. I went into the LBS and they were like, well we could order this Fuji for you. I'd rather build it up with hand-picked parts though. Any suggestions on sizing besides going to get fit? I'm 5' 10" by the way.... or 178 cm vertically.

You could probably just ask [what's the guy's name?] at Business Cycles. However, it's (much) more important to get the right top tube length for yourself than standover height. At 5'10", you'd *likely* be on the large side for a 54 and the small side for a 56. Like I said, best to figure out what top tube length you need and go from there.

Stems come in different lengths though, whereas my nuts are always the same height, but thank you for the advice.

Unless you make a habit of standing in front of the saddle with the bike in between your legs (thus laying your nuts down on the top tube), I'm not sure why you'd worry about it. I don't know about you, but I don't ever straddle my bike. I'm either pedaling or leaning over to one side with a foot down on the pavement, but in both cases, I'm still sitting on the saddle. I might be the odd one out on this though...

As for why top tube is important - the general wisdom is that you really shouldn't run stems shorter than 90 mm or longer than 130 mm (for various claimed reasons). While 4 cm sounds like a large range of adjustment, it's much less adjustment than you have in setting your saddle height, for instance. That's why I'm saying it's important to get that as close to spot on as possible. I think most bike dealers/fitters/riders would agree. Of course, seat tube length matters too as that usually dictates head tube length, which will in turn set a range on your saddle to bar drop (or rise).

Anyway, pay less attention to me and give John Dacey (that's his name) a call!

I ride a 54.5cm (c-to-c) windsor, but a 50cm bareknuckle. standover is the same – 31 inches.
