but basically, helmets are never really rad.

giro semi. looks like a bmx helmet, but doesn't roast yer brain.
giro xen, if you can find it on sale.
bell metro also lacks the irritating flanges that designers feel the need to put on the back of helmets.

I dip the bell sweep. But I wear is the tirreno firenza which I've only seen at performance, and right now it's extra cheap.

https://www.performancebike.com/shop...&estore_ID=113

It's comfortable and doesn't look too bad, even on my big rectangle head.

I have this helmet. Strong and light. It's saved my mellon twice. It was under $30.

Isn't it a general rule to always replace a helmet after an impact?
I know new Pro-Tecs are rated/designed to withstand multiple impacts, but "real" bike helmets (Bell, Giro, etc...) are not.
That thing is like some weird hybrid, though. So, I dunno what rule applies to it.

I'm a big fan of Limar helmets - https://www.limar.com

One of the v. few helmets I tried where you didn't notice that you had a helmet on. Crashed in one and did its job. Hard to find in the US though I always seemed to find them on sale when I needed one.

I'd personally always change a helmet after a serious knock/crash. Why take the risk?

Bell Alchera - sells for $44.95 at performance and nashbar. Its a Euro model that they sell on closeout. Basically a poor mans Ghisallo. Love mine, really comfy and has pro looks to boot.

Maybe this is old news, but Catlike will make custom "team colour" runs of their Kompakt helmets with a minimum order of 30. Rustle up your friends!

i also have the alchera as well, and this is much smaller cooler and better IMHO (but also a little more $$)

https://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...eid=&pagename=

my first one was only a month or two old when it went flying off the car roof after an mtb ride one day where i forgot to put it in the car before taking off. i liked it so much i had to get a second.

I can attest to the Giro Eclipse, as just this past weekend I destroyed one in a crash. Helmet was shattered, skull was not.

Pricepoint.com has a nice Giro E2 for sale for $60, marked down from $160.
