Anything Sweeter?

Anything Sweeter?
Is there anything sweeter than passing roadbikers while climbing hills? I've been riding fixed for three years now and the improvement in my climbing is phenomenal. I'm set up 48x18 with bull horns. This guy caught up to me last week after following me down a steep hill. Wanted to know what was going on with the spinning. He'd never seen a track bike before. We talked for a mile and, when we got to the next hill, I told him that I'd have to charge up it to keep my momentum going and that he'd probably catch me half way up. I looked back after 1/4 mile and he was fading into the distance.

The story when passing "roadies" with my chain around my waist, no spandex, no glasses, no gloves, no helmet, cut-off shorts, chucks/cages/strapes...
Pass. The clicking of shifting behind me, then they pass me.
They do not like being passed by someone who doesn't look like a "serious" cyclist.

Dear Frankie,
You probably can pass me six ways to Sunday, on hills, but let's go for a ride together.
After 91 miles I'll bet I'll have you begging for mercy. I don't know about riding in
Vermont but I'll bet I'll kick you ass, here in Seattle. ,)
Sincerely, Marge

SO where are the piles of messages from roadies gloating about dusting fixed gear riders on century rides? You should post that stuff on your spandex roadie forums for sure.
I for one am happy to pass anybody anywhere, since it makes me feel less slow.

Ouch! I deserved that, Marge. Pride goeth before a fall. You might be right, but get yourself a fixie and by the time I get out there in a year or two, you'll drop me in 25.
My real point, besides boasting too much, was that the same hills that used to be a chore on my road bike are just a slow place in the road now. I can climb anything, up to 8%, faster now than I could on my geared bike four years ago. Fixed gear will make you stronger.

There is nothing sweeter then passing somebody on a climb fixed or geared . I ride both but passing roadies on a climb or just riding their a$$ when you are on fixed and have them keep looking back and shifting trying to drop you makes me feel good. Maybe I am just an a$$hole but it is the little things that make me happy . On the flip side I hate being drafted (except if they are a friend) when I am on my road bike and will drop them or slow down to get the fool off of my wheel
