Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Right now I substitute teach and go to school at night but this is my last real semester of classes. In January I start student teaching in a self contained emotionally disturbed class for 4th and 5th graders. I am psyced since its in my old elemantary school which is a mile from my house so I can ride my bike. I graduate in May and am hoping to take over my friends class as she is going out on leave the week I graduate. During the summer I am a camp counselor at a camp for cognitively impaired children and I also work at a bike shop on weekends spring through September.

The labor movement has indeed... my question for OP is more, what is your job? I missed the JIW reference, but being a member of a union isn't a job, though being an officer may be. IBEW members do a lot of different jobs, unlike some unions... For instance, members of my union (NULI) only have one job by definition. That said, don't blame me or my office for the decline (as the afl-cio would often like to do), for we all think its sad as well.

also on the the IBEW and recognizing union acronyms, I grew up knowing them. Maybe its growing up in philly that caused that but i think its weird. I've, for example, known for years about Local 98 in philly, not just because i have this job, but rather because i think you'd have to have your head in the sand not to know.

*edit* the last paragraph is in reference to philly, i don't think people in SF, for example, have their head in the sand if they don't know anything about IBEW local 98
