stuck cones on axle
sorry for cross-posting this, but i figured i might get a faster answer in here rather than the maitenance forum as there were only like 5 people on it.
i took my front wheel apart to repack the bearings and one of the cones and loc nuts are not moving. i've tried putting the axle back on to get leverage with my cone wrenches and no dice. any tips appreciated. thx.

For some things it pays to have the right equipment. When I ran into that problem, I took the whole wheel into lbs. I told them how I wanted to buy bearings and rebuild the hub. A guy took the axle downstairs. He came up a couple of minutes later with everything seperated and a little coke baggie of bearings.
I paid for the bearings. I did the cleanup and repacking at home.
So my tip? Don't f it up with a vice grip. Pay a couple of bucks to save your parts.

Did you try putting the wheel back in the fork and tightening down the axle nut on the opposite side to act as a vise and then using the cone wrench on the stuck cone?
