Ok. I decided not to threadjack and started this monster.
I'm thinking of moving, going to school somewhere that doesn't suck, and seeing what the possibilities are.
Any suggestions? I know Chicago, Atl, NYC, and Philly are big cities with options and people, but I'm just seeing what's out there and if anyone has experiences or anything.
Thanks a lot.
Don't worry, I have no delusions of being a messenger. I just enjoy riding, and commuting would be a big plus. I would like to not have a car to cut down on expenses.

I think it also depends what your major is, unless youre there just to get a piece o paper and dont care what it actually says, thats your choice.

Well, I'm liberal arts, English. Writing, teaching, whatever. So, a lot of schools are going to have that.

Pittsburgh! Cheap, good schools, great city.
Cheap.
Did I say cheap?
Yeah, cheap. Rent is cheap, groceries are cheap, entertainment is cheap. Taxes are high.

wherever you move just make sure you have a bit of savings to fall back on. sometimes it's a bit rough to get set up someplace. i've moved 5 times in the last 6 years - 2 times to different cities\states. you'll burn through money quickly, trust me.

yeah unless you have a specific need to be in NYC youd be better off somewhere else.

Yes. I forgot about boston. I know schools there won't be cheap. It's unfortunate. It's like paying to smell Ivy League or something.
By no means am I stupid, so I should get some money from schools. But, if tuition is like 20K, that really doesn't matter a whole helluva lot.

baltimore is convenient because there are a lot of places nearby to escape to, but who really wants to live in baltimore? i dig it for a visit, but yeah.
i'd say philly for a pretty good cool/cheap ratio.
i'd also recommend NYC if you can afford it, but i need to know what talents/skills/etc. you would contribute to our fine city. also, look into CUNY schools. i got to brooklyn college and it's pretty solid.

Bikes: IRO Mark V pro (RIP), Bianchi Giro, Giant Xtc1, Redline Conquest Pro, Kelly Deluxe singlespeed.
Some of the smaller college(type) towns are cheaper, have good schools and decent scenes.
I certainly won't reccomend Champaign to anyone, but how about Madison WI, Columbia, MO or Boulder maybe?

You should visit all these cities if you haven't already. This seems like an important move. The last thing you want to do is enroll and end up hating the environment. If you have contacts in any of the cities you mentioned, call them up and spend a weekend w/ them.
Some good things about Philly
-Cheap
-Great Schools
-Bike friendly
-Just a short train or bus ride from DC, NYC, Boston

Yes, Philly is sounding better and better every time. I don't have any friend there though. So, visiting cheaply would be difficult.
