Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bought a folder for $2 at a yard sale with the same end in mind. The fixie rider at the LBS thinks it shouldn't be a problem. Except that if this project is anything like my previous projects I should just chuck it...my conversions spiral out of control faster than military contracts.

About a month ago somebody had a Raleigh 20 on Craigslist Philly for around $40. I was the second person to email them so I did not get it but I had the same Idea in mind .

Go for it if you can find one

Bikes: heh, like that info would fit here...

I've got two junky dahon folders (came as 3 speeds) that I turned into low-geared brakeless fixies (for me and the wife). Work great. Cost about 50 bucks each. I started putting my unused fancy parts on mine just for kicks because they weren't being used. I've probably got one of the only dahon classic 3's with carbon and titanium parts on a high-ten frame...
