Are there any "cheap" 144 BCD Cranksets?
Something in the $100 range?
Or are they all top of the line, Sugino 75, Dura Ace, etc... $250+ range?
Thanks.

why, do you want to use a top-of-the-line chainring on a cheap crank? because that's the only reason to go 144mm BCD... just get cheap 110 or 130 cranks, or save up for the Suginos (they are worth it).

I'm just curious as to the range in pricing of 144 bcd cranksets.
Also, there are a lot more 1/8 chainring options in 144 bcd than 130.

i am sure that i hate you
yes i was a little curious in difference of strength and durability between 144 and 130. i'm guessing for me at 125 or so it would be little but for some of the bigger folks, is there a preference on chainring bolting pattern?
You can sometimes find old Super Maxy and Sakae road cranks in 144. I have the latter on my ride and gave away a set of the former.
Crapzeit!
Stronglight make a quite nice track-specific crankset with a 130BCD, and TA make a wide range of reasonably priced 1/8" chainrings. Business Cycles has them.
Used Sugino 75s seem to turn up pretty regularly in the $150 range w/ a ring. EAI seems to have jacked up the wholesale price quite substantially recently, so used prices will probably start to creep up a bit.
Those Campy BMX cranks were 144BCD, right? How much do they go for?

I would imagine that the wider spider (whee! a rhyme!) gives a bit more stiffness. The arms are more substantial than the ring, which would give you less flex.
To answer the OP's question, no, I don't think there are any cheapies. I've had lots of problems finding a decent 1/8" ring in 110/130. I have on order a TA ring which should do well for my beater. It's 130 bcd AND 1/8", so it should solve my problems.
If you really want a track crank, expect to pay track crank prices. There's a reason they cost as much as they do. THEY'RE WORTH IT!!!!
