I'm getting a new pair of brake pads for the Steamroller, stock Tektro R538 still installed. A lot of people seem to like Kool Stop pads, so might as well try them out. Not sure what kind though; will the Dura 2 fit? Also, is there any reason for me to get a new pair of brake shoes?

franswa 03-09-15 08:11 AM

Koolstops are much better than the stock pads. Superior stopping, but they do tend to wear out quicker. The Dura 2 will fit without any issues. Been wanting to try the dual compound myself. Your Tektro brake shoes should not need replacing. They'll do the job just fine and if I'm not mistaken, will allow you to adjust the shoe angle to be toed-in.

I tip my hat for the information. Many thanks for the help, dude.

I've done a little fruitless searching, so maybe this is a dumb question, but is there literally anywhere to get a 27 inch tire narrower than one inch?

Looking for suggestions on some nice Faux Leather Handlebar Tape for a budget build. Black is the color I'm looking for and I do not want the real thing as this is a budget build. Thanks

A while back I asked how to get in contact with Chrome, as they didn't seem to answer my mail. Don't know if it was the tip from Scrod or my post to their Facebook page, but I did get an answer. So maybe it wasn't the quickest response I've had dealing with warranty issues, but it sure was one of the best experiences in the and after all. Final result, they gave me a brand new bag.

Thanks, Chrome.

What was wrong with the old one?

The velcro on the front flap is barely "sticking" anymore after barely 7 months of use. Love the bag to death (other than that).

+1 on the Fizik Microtex. It looks like leather with little holes. I believe it comes in a bunch of colors and it is not too expensive.

Hi there.

I have a Masi Speciale Sprint 2009 frame and i simply can't figure out what the clamp size is - whether it's 29.8 og 30.0mm... I've just bought a Thomson post (29.8) but it seems to be able to move a little tiny bit from side to side in the tube when the clamp isn't tightened. Thoughts? (I've tried measuring with a special tool and it said 29.8 so i'm a bit confused :(

Cheers,
Karl

Mumonkan 03-13-15 06:29 PM

typically when the clamp isnt tightened, the post being able to move would be a good thing. not quite sure what the problem is here.

cDiff Notorious 03-13-15 06:30 PM

The seatpost isn't 27.2?

Scrodzilla 03-14-15 02:11 AM

The seatpost is 27.2mm, the seatpost collar is either 29.8 or 30.0 depending on the manufacturer (they are the same thing).

Measure the inside of your seat tube with a digital caliper. If it reads anything other than 27.2mm, your frame is ****ed up.

Karl1196 03-14-15 05:05 AM

Hahaha then my frame is ****ed up... And i'm sorry for being incorrect - my english isn't perfect. It's not the clamp size - a 31.8 fits, it's the size of the seatpost.

A Thomson 29.8mm fits in it :l And my problem is that i'm unsure of whether the frame needs a 30.0mm or 29.8mm seatpost - was hoping any of you knew anything about the frame?

Q: If the frame actually takes a 30.0mm and not 29.8mm post, would it be a problem riding with the 29.8 or is the difference so small that it shouldn't matter?

cDiff Notorious 03-14-15 09:23 AM

I don't think 0.2mm makes that much of a difference, Scrod said it is the same thing. He also advised you to measure the inside of the seat tube (which will most likely yield 27.2). Also, Mumonkan stated that if the seat post is able to move when the clamp isn't tightened, it is a good thing.

For a 27.2 seat post you might need a 31.8 seat clamp (a seat clamp goes on the frame and needs a larger diameter than the seat post)

If your seat post is 29.8 mm and your seat clamp is 29.8 it will not go in. If your seat post is 30.0mm and your seat clamp is 29.8 it will not go in.

None of this makes any sense. Best of luck to you.

Sorry for being unclear... **** it, i'll try with a pic instead. Does the frame look stressed? http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=438991

And here i Think it's visible that the post is bigger than 27.2mm http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=438992

cDiff Notorious 03-14-15 10:01 AM

It looks like you need a smaller seat post. Measure the seat tube with a digital caliper or a ruler.

if it does, drink more beer till you dont notice.

If the post will go in, and it has some slop, why would he want an even smaller post?
