Ever ridden an unsuspended fatbike? I bought one for my GF, but thankfully the dealership gave us what we paid as trade-in for a suspended 29er. Might be great for riding on snow or beach sand, but feels pretty silly everywhere else.

Unkle Rico 10-08-16 10:20 AM

I have actually but it was for like 5 mins and i was drunk. Seems like a good deal but my knowledge of FB's is limited currently. I plan on biking through the winter for commuting which is what this bike would be primary used for. I supposed I can always get a suspension fork in the future?

TejanoTrackie 10-08-16 11:00 AM

I tried one out, and it felt incredibly heavy and slow. You could probably walk faster on your commute than ride one of these beasts.

TenSpeedV2 10-08-16 05:06 PM

As for a deal, it is a good price. For commuting in the winter, they are not much fun. It is a slow and tedious ride depending on your mileage. Mine was 7.5 miles each way and I started to dread it. They are a blast in like 4" of freshly fallen powder on the street but how often does that happen? In 10" or more, forget it, you are more than likely not riding it in that.

Keep in mind that good tires for these things are on the expensive side. You can play with the air pressure to soften up the ride, however, it will feel even slower.

Apologies in advance for the tiresome "this bike vs this other bike" question, but here goes. I'm in the market for a single speed commuter frame that I can install some wider tires and fenders on. Right now I'm between a Wabi Classic and a Surly Steamroller. Both seem to fit the bill and are comparably priced. I take it that the Wabi has higher quality steel, and is also lighter, so I'm leaning towards the Wabi. Am I missing anything that should make me choose the Steamroller over the Wabi here?

velofinds 10-13-16 08:09 AM

Can't go wrong with either of those, but all else being equal, I'd go with the Wabi.

Thanks.

Also, the Wabi has fender mounts, which are lacking on the Steamroller.

Doesn't the Steamroller have rear mounts? I was under the impression that both have rear mounts but not bosses on the fork. Thanks TT!

IIRC the Wabi Classic has hidden fender mounts on the fork, but the new Okie website is really dumbed down, so I can't confirm this. As to the Steamroller, you are correct that it now does have rear mounts, although it did not originally.

The new ones do, yes.

A while back we were discussing Micro SD cards for GoPro.

I think the media in my GoPro is going bad and need to purchase another one.

Is there a consensus on the best brand/model?

Tim,

Not sure brand matters but type does. Make sure you get a fast card that is expressly made for recording video, not just photographs but video. Not all of them are and the ones that are cost a bit more.

That's what I'm asking.

What brand? What type? Make, model...?

These always get high marks in the "bang for the buck" category.

Is this right?I asked Track Supermarket how much they weigh and the reply was, "Each wheel weighs about 1.1kg".

Really? That heavy? Asking out of ignorance here.

You could build better wheels for that price.

seau grateau 11-15-16 07:29 PM

Rolling my ****ing eyes at bike part retailers who can't give exact weight for their products. Definitely wouldn't be a lightweight set, but 2200g sounds like an estimate made by someone who didn't bother to check.

That's probably pretty close. Those Araya rims aren't light.

This set weighs 920g front/1040g rear using lighter spokes & hubs and that's the actual weight from my scale.

TimothyH 11-15-16 10:57 PM

Thanks all. Scrod, this is for you...

Quick question

Is SA 730 and SA 30 the same model? I am new to Araya rims, there nothing much info on google

In my LBS there SA 730 and other Araya rims varies but I am not sure which one I should get, I heard SA 730 (OR SA 30) is good one

However, Araya rims have quite narrow rim, I dunno if that matter

Any suggestion?

Scrodzilla 11-16-16 08:42 AM

At close inspection the SA-730 and SA-30 appear to be the same thing.

franswa 11-16-16 08:54 AM

It's barely 7am in SD. Are you posting in your jammies?
