10th place. 4 out of the top 10 were out-of-towners.
Thank you DC for a damn good time.
Special thanks to Jrowe and Ellen for getting me thru this!

well... let me express my love and respect for Brooklyn. Y'all rock. Marcelinyc, woah, such a nice, fun, crazy guy... best checkpoint buddy EVER. And chombo, knifefight, wangster... so good to finally meet y'all, even if you didn't get responses to your CL ad. S_9, great seeing you again and congrats on 1st out of town - team B.A.D.A.S.S. in full effect.
WakeUp, I hope we see more of you. You're not far away at all... and the pillaging will continue.
jrowedc, thanks for comin' back. you should visit more often.
I'm really just amazed at how every single BF person I've met has been truly wonderful... and keeping it awesome.
The next DC race is the Midnight Frostbite, which is on the weekend of Dr. MLK Day. Jan 14-16. Plan on coming. It will be colder, and crazier, and i'll try to stay soberer.
i miss you guys already.
*heart*
chimbly, in full recovery-mode-- feeling the same reeling hangover as after the mng.
ps - wait till you see the photos. monday. i promise.

Anyhow, as you all know, we threw a race for Rico Palacios last night in DC and Copenhagen threw a race last weekend. Through over sixty paying racers, donations and the sale of a ton of raffle tickets for a custom Cap City Sack by Lyndsey from DC, we were able to raise $2035.00 for Rico. Copenhagen was able to raise $500.00.
Now here comes the good part:
I was contacted through April Sauerwine about someone who wanted to match any collected funds with his own personal donation. We were speechless. Even then, we hoped to raise maybe five or six hundred dollars, but the local outpouring was insane. Over two thousand dollars!!! You all rock!!!
That person turned out to be none other than Larry Parks!!! And not only did he match the $2000 from us, he matched the $500.00 from Copenhagen. That means he donated $2,500 to bring the grand total amount to $5,000.00 dollars! Larry, you are a prince amongst men, my friend!!! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!!
Yeah, you heard right!
FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS UNITED STATES CURRENCY!!!
Now that is insane!
Lola and us are trying to figure out the best way for this to be given to Rico's mom with minimal taxes and so.
Rico is still in a delicate situation, but he mother speaks in terms of long term recovery. Hopefully this money will help her relieve the financial burden that accidents like this seem to impose on the family of the hurt. It is enough that she has to worry about Rico without having to worry about money!
I'd like to thank the sponsors Kryptonite and Crumpler for not even hesitating to send down prizes on short notice.
To Manhattan Portage who threw in some bags via the NYC crew that came down and KICKED ASS, placing 2nd through 4th and half of the top ten, plus top woman!!!
To One Less Car for the scwhagg! I de-badged my Fuji to put a FREEDOM stciker on it. The Inconsiderate Driver stickers were a hit, as were the sweet T-shirts.
WABA (Maggie and Eric) threw in some sweet stuff, especially those fleece jackets!
Thanks to Big Jonny at drunkcyclist.com for posting the race on his site.
Again, we just want to thank all those who donated time, money or talent to come out in support of Rico and his mom.
I am sure he is feeling the love!!!

ah, so I'm "kevin murphy's friend." and I would have had 3900 had kevin not picked up my manifest by mistake at the second to last checkpoint. good race though, I had a blast.

DC-
Thank you for the incredible weekend. Along with all the incredibly friendly and generous BF people, DC as a whole showed its good side. The college girls, did not.
Huge huge thanks to poopncow for the hospitality. Brooklyn's here.

The clandestine wifi that has been feuling my rampant BF addiction ever since I moved to BROOKLYN a few months ago seems to be crapping out on me. Whoever it was that had the connection has apparently let it fall into disrepair. Damn you, unknown neighbor! DAMN YOU! Anyway, had it not been for that, I would've been heaping praise & thanks on the Pirates as soon as I crossed the frozen Manhattan bridge & made my way back to my apartment. (in BROOKLYN).
poopncow, thanks for the dope air mattress. Ch0mb0 & I had a swell time cuddling on it.
chimbly, thanks for being checkpoint awesome. TEAM BADASS!!!
dc em, jdrowe, spud, etc, etc, etc. You're all awesome.
Way to go DC for raising five freakin thousand dollars!!!

ha I love those trackstand photos!
Glad you made it back to Brooklyn s_9.
We were wondering if you got the "first in to town" award yesterday as well.
It was terrifical fun meeting the other forum peoples down there, you're all a bunch of interesting characters. Quite generous, too. Ran into Alex from citybikes at the last minute and he hooked us up with some maps. If we come down next month, we'll be (slightly) prepared!
Thanks again for being such great hosts. Come on up and see us sometime.

hahah
dude we were so hungry (and COLD)
those blueberry newtons were the jimmy-jam shiz-nizzle
proof:

on a side note,
the expression may not be as good as the "pie" photo that some of you have mentioned,
but now that I look at it, I do make some silly a$$ faces don't I?
