My rear rubino has a little tear in it that i just noticed today. It is not flat but the tear is pretty deep. Is there anything i can do to prevent this tire from failing. Ive been riding it for about 2 months now. Ill snap a pick later. I really cant find my digital camera right now which is really ****ing wierd. Im just hoping i am not ****ed in the ass on this one. with one of those giant plastic pepes, not one of those realistic looking ones either, a plastic purple one... thats like 2 times wider than any real person could be. Yeah.

i've had smaller nicks in my tires from hitting whatever and i filled them with super glue... sounds like you need a new tire though

Stick something between the tire and the tube. A dollar bill works pretty well, as does a clifbar wrapper (so I've heard anyway).

It's not meant to be permanent, more of what you'd do if you tear your tire during a ride. But hey, I've ridden on a dollar billed tire for a few weeks before...

There's a hole in my tire so deep that I can see the tube bubbling a little. It's been this way since early June. I'm too cheap and lazy to buy a new tire intil this one wears out.

AFAIK I've never gotten a flat from the hole, just something sharp sliced the tire but not the tube.

Slap a piece of one of those plasticy fedex envelopes in between the tube and the hole. Those things hold up amazingly well.

97 Teran hooked me up with a buck and it worked like a charm. Rode it for a while.

Was riding around yesterday with a deep half inch tear with exposed tubing, and you can get around like that briefly - but to put your mind at ease, get a new tire when you can.

cut a patch from an old tube and put it in there.

then buy a new tire.

Same thing happened to me on my rubinos. It'll flat once. I just took the little shard in there that ripped it in the first place out and it's been good ever since. all the other suggestions are probably much better ideas though.

As most of the tires I use are ones that are thrown away at the shop, I usually have rather new tires with holes in them. Lots of things work to boot them to keep tube from pushing through too far and popping:

dollar bill (as stated above)
little section of tyvek (those fedex envelopes, other sources)
a layer or two of cotton hbar wrap (my favorite)
a 1x1 " square cut from a 2 liter soda bottle (sand the edges!)
pretty much any material with a high tensile strengh (won't be pulled apart easily)

i fixed the same problem with a large patch-kit patch. i even used the vulcanizing solution, which didnt make it hold that well, but it's no matter since it's pressed in there by the tube.
