Worst SE bands ever...wait, most of them sucked:
1 part blonde hair dye
1 part champion hoodie
1 part El Marko "X" on hand
1 part undersexed white kid from suburbs
1 part secretly in love with Ray Cappo or Porcell - take your pick.
mix well

end result: kid who goes off to college, joins frat, then drinks himself into Detox.

I love stories with counter-morals.

best straightedge band other than minor threat is Former Members of Alfonsin

MLPROJECT 12-06-05 09:33 PM

champion wasn't around then... more like
blonde hair dye
khaki shorts
yale t-shirt
OR
sweat pants/ultra tight jeans
knee high nike air revolutions
hoodie

turning point does suck, but chain of strength is ****ing amazing.
don't tell me you like earth crisis.

Placid Casual 12-06-05 09:34 PM

Pretty good, Karsten. Pretty good. TIP still has you by about five pages at this point, but...pretty good.

As such, and now that I'm again detached from the world for a few days:

I wanted to know the history and perhaps hear the song that started it all.

jeff nelson and mike phyte? huh.

Serpico 12-06-05 11:21 PM

they had champions back then, I used to wear them and listen to all the revolution, victory, and new age records bands

saw many of them (yup, even earth crisis and slapshot) I was too young and missed youth of today, but I saw shelter several times and my friend toured with 108

there was a few cool festivals back around '92, the more than music festival in columbus (?) ohio, and one in madison wisconsin

I was never into the tuff guy SE stuff, more the vegan/punk

fun stuff until you're about 17, lol

MLPROJECT 12-07-05 12:12 AM

i still love that ****...

except now victory is a keyboard moog poop label and REVELATION has gone the same way.

STEP ON IT still gets heavy rotation on my turntable... STRAIGHT EDGE STRAIGHT EDGE IN YOUR FACE! YOU DON'T BELONG IN THE HUMAN RACE... while i'm drinking a beer

Smorgasgeorge 12-07-05 12:14 AM

I get no bigger kick than to get shltfaced at 218 while wearing my good clean fun hoodie......and shout out "true till death" every once in a while.

(and posting drunk with judge hammers as my avatar is pretty cool too.)

MLPROJECT 12-07-05 12:16 AM

the whole i used to be straight edge but drink flaunting my straight edge tattoos thing is getting played out already like straight edge got played out.

when all the major courage crew players in louisville picked up the bottle, they used to think it was the funniest **** ever. i guess they were some trendsetters.

ostro 12-07-05 12:18 AM

how many sXe edgers does it take to drink a six pack?

1 when no one is looking

MLPROJECT 12-07-05 12:19 AM

"i've had enough... i've had enough of straight edge kids who drink behind my back!"

my favorite thing has to be was some of the graffiti writers i came up with that were straight edge talking about "you know that feeling you get when you paint... nah, not huffing the fumes, but the feeling about it"

yeah. right dudes.. its cool we know you're huffing on a bag.

"I used to be a dumb member of a fundamentalist behavior cult. Now I'm just a dumb drunk." Wow, that's TWICE the impressive! Ness. Twice the impressiveness.

helvetica 12-07-05 03:57 AM

The only person that every created "good" straight edge music would have to be Frank Zappa.

as was mentioned, minor threat's "straight edge" coined the phrase, and out of step and bottled violence and a couple of their other songs sort of fell in line with that.

i personally think the idea of straight edge is great, i of course dislike the intolerance some straight edgers have for none straight edgers, as much as i dislike the intolerance some non straight edgers have for straight edgers. it's no different.
