Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

they're off an album called "undisputed attitude" that's all covers of punk songs. pretty worthwhile, actually. for me, it's reign in blood, south of heaven, and that album, and i don't care about most of the **** after that. a song here and there, but not much else.

yeah, i'm the same way. i have to admit, i'm a bigger minor threat fan than a slayer fan. although, a friend exposed me to the covers, and i was stoked.

yeah...slayer plays faster (by their own admission, influenced by minor threat and dri, who they also cover on that album) and all, but when they cover those songs, they add a certain...not a new level of aggression, but a different type of aggression that sounds cool.

i have to side with slayer. i heard them before i knew minor threat existed. however even after listening to both extensively, i find slayer to be the more rockin.

Of course they are! Minor Threat had something to say. Slayer has RRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR to say, which you don't need ideology for. It's universal, even if In My Eyes is maybe the most angry rock song ever recorded.

And I'm sure Slayer were just as influential on DRI.

Tonight's listening:
Buried Inside - Chronoclast
Konono Number One
Complete Motown Singles
Eluvium - Talk Amongst The Trees
Super Madrigal Brothers - Baroque In Voltage
Napalm Death - The Code Is Dead...
Fruit Bats - Spelled In Bones
Antony and the Johnsons - I Am A Bird Now

"thorns" s/t debut. hell of an album. this guy gets out of jail after a seven year sentence for being the accomplice to euronomous' murder and sums up the whole genre of black metal in one album. i always get songs from this album stuck in my head.

also been listening to a burzum demo album "ragnarok (a new begining)". who knew even crappier production could be so good?

no, it's got some early four track home recording type stuff from 'det som engang var' era. there is one keyboard track though. it's 'havamal' but it has this old dude singing words of odin on it. ****ing sweet. i dont know when it came out as i dont have the case. a friend of mine left it at my place. apparently it's limited press, but this guy is actually friends with varg, so im guessing that's how he got it. ive never seen it in stores but you might be able to find it online. highly recommended if you appreciate gritty recording...
