Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Poop.

I leaned my fixie up against the wall for two seconds while I was getting other stuff out of my car, and turned around just in time to see it fall over and have the beautiful Nitto Northroad bars I had been savingr for such a project for the past year get wedged under the top tube, to the point I had to loosen them and pivot them down to get them out from under the top tube. Left 4 pretty big dents in the end of the bar. I was kinda surprised they dented so easily, and really pissed because I JUST taped the bar and have had one frickin ride on it.

Bummer, although when you wrote that you turned around, I thought this was going to be a "MY BIKE GOT STOLEN!!!!" thread, which would have been really lousy. Too bad that this happened but I guess take heart that it coulda been worse? Uhm, that is all I gots, sorry

yeah, me too...but after reading it all i decided "aww, man, that sucks, i hope you find it again" wasn't going to be an appropriate reply.

I still remember how sickening that sound is as a CroMo road bike hits the ground--almost as bad as not getting your foot out of the clips and going over with it.

that's exactly what i was thinking. how stressful. in my mind i imagined delinquent teenage members of the foot clan appearing silently out of an alley for just enough time to swipe the bike and disappear again. :O !!!

Actually that just happened to my friend... so I guess I should consider myself lucky... he had his Steamroller built up with the Campy track grouppo, running a 53x14 as I recall. Anyways, he sets the bike down, runs back in the house to grab some paperwork he forgot, and comes back out and its gone, less than 8min probably. Anyways, I would have loved to see the kid that stole it trying to stop a 53x14 I have a feeling the bike got its own revenge on the theif...
