Best Looking Rims
What are your opinion the best looking rims available today? Do not take in to account price or durability just looks...and pics are always fun.
|
Multicolored, polished deep-Vs
|
i'm always gonna be fond of open pros. but i'm not exactly one of those dudes who likes flashy stuff.

From Tomity's page:
http://homepage.mac.com/tomity/PhotoAlbum36.html Sorry, I culdn't figure out how to show this a s an image, but it is a wooden rim. |
I like non-machined aero rims with a shallow, rounded, v-section... the Araya semi-aeros come to mind, as do Sun Mistrals and that sick pair of polished Saavedras that Dubteka is looking to unload. I have a pair of Campy Ypsilons that I quite like, and the Lambdas are pretty much the same.
Colours and Deep-Vs leave me cold. |
Non-machined Deep Vs.
|
best looking are the blu velocity deepv rims that i got
|
Mavic MA2
|
Classic: Any campy track tubulars.
New-school bling: Non-machined deep vees. |
Personally, i'd like to see some good pics. Especially of machined vs. non-machined deep v's.
|
I really like anything hard anodized... Anyone know of a modern rim that is hard anodized? (That shiny dark grey, almost black, but kind of mirror looking finish...)

The older Mavic G40 rims are nice looking too with a more box shape. I also have FIR ES 35 rims on my road bike and FIR M121 on my mountain bike in that finish. |

I have the clincher version of those Saavedras. Nice, but I've given up on keeping them trued. Could just be my crappy wheelbuild though. I think they weight about 230 grams...?
I'm looking for some classic silver, low-profile clincher rims for a Record build... |
I like semi-aero as well.

After having messengered for years on deep rims - rigida, velocity, mavic cxp 33's, I am very much over them. sure they're stiff and don't go out of true as much, but they're heavy, accelerate slower and give a really harsh ride. from an aesthetics point of view, i like the look of a somewhat profiled rim, not boxed out, semi-aero, definitely nothing machined, or too deep, or with a step to break the line from spoke to bead.
the best riding and best looking would be older mavic open 4 cd, and fir ea 60. I like dark grey-brownish rims, i find they look the most elegant with a blackwall tire. very classic. |
