Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

CHICAGO! New Year's Eve?!

Shout outs to Absntr and The DCC and all Chicagoland! Holla!

What is with New Year's Eve in Chicago?
I'm set to be all up in there visiting some of my extended crew,
just wondering if anything way radical is happening?!

Things not to be missed, and whatnot.
Events or suggestions, bike-related or not.

Singlespeed! Fixed Gear! Pie! Yes! Go!

Bikes: Raleigh conversion (hours spent making it look like a Pista); Porter Track, Samson Track, Leto Roadie.

I was toying with putting together a poker ride on New Year's Day, modeled after one I participated in over Thanksgiving in Portland...you make five stops (probably all bars across the city), and at each you get a card, and whoever has the best hand at the end winds (either the pot, or some other TBD prize). Considering it would be New Year's Day, really lo-key, not fast, probably not too far, but we'd have a good time.

If people are interested, I'll start working on it.

If execute plan A (snowboarding far far away from the Chi) then out

Else

I would do it if it were the day after new years day (Monday). Most people have off.
On New Year's Day I will be extremely hung over on the couch watching the
Twighlight Zone marathon.

End If

That's a good call. I, too, will be hungover.

I've got Monday off as well. That would work. Although, if out-of-towners are going to be around on Sunday and not Monday, it might be cool to do it then.

if you can throw something together that is solid, you should donate the funds to BMEF or some other worthy cause. I like the fact that these things can be actually altruistic and not self-serving stages for people. I am sure if you ask nicely, some of the local bikes shops can throw a few things your way.

But then again, maybe low-key is the order of the day here.

Hey, I'm totally going to be in Chicago for New Year's Eve! I'll be free until 5pm-ish, then I have to get ready to see The New Pornographers play at the Metro. But I hope to have my bike with me, so I could maybe ride...

Heads up, everybody...the poker ride is going to happen, as your friend and mine, Brent at PW, has donated some PW swag. Look for an offical announcement tonight, probably...
