How many?
On the average how bikes do most people own here? I am working on another build right now and it got me to thinking. I have one complete bike built up, an extra frame lying around and a grip of parts for the second build. What about the rest of you?

Three bikes, all fixed.
Plus the frame from my first conversion just sitting there taunting me. |
4 fix

i got three - down from 4. i'm thinking of shipping one to my parents house for when i go down there. that will leave me with 2, which is about all i can handle.
i've discovered that mutiple bikes do me no good. i tend to ride only one bike 99% of the time and use the spare for emergencies. |
1 bike.
3 frames with components in various states of disrepair |
3 fixed and one road

alright to add to the topic... how often do you ride the different bikes or do you mainly ride your favorite?

3 fix
1 road (and 1 more track frame in a few short weeks... huzzah!) each of my bikes have specific uses. fix1 has a brake and phils, is my beater/badweather commuter/streetracer. fix2 is my track/trainingfortrack frame (and in all honesty is also my Special Occasion frame, used similar to a special occasion dress). fix3 is my super upright riding commuter. road is for really freaking long rides or days when my knees are on strike. i ride them all, and each of them goes out at least a couple times a week. i don't have a favorite, though I think I will in a few weeks... |
1 track, 1 conversion and my wifes track as well(but that is hers, not mine) and working on another.
|
I'm curious as to how long it took everyone to get to the number of bikes you currently have?
|
1) Working fixed conversion
1) Working geared MTB 2) Road frames awaiting conversion 1) Track frame waiting for better weather 1) Dresser full of parts |
Seven bikes, 3 sets of derailleurs.
|
I plead the fifth.

1 fix used for going just about everywhere all the time
1 road used for long road rides with fellow roadie friends up and down big hills in berkeley 1 MTB barely used these days (unfortunately) 1 BMX my former cross-town commuter, a position replaced by my fixie, but it's still a blast to ride around for short rides, and as the cheapest bike i own, i'm least worried about it being stolen/molested when i lock it up these bikes were accumulated at the rate of about one a year and i have no plans to add any more to my stable at this time |
1 chopper
1 fixed conversion 1 about to be fixed conversion 1 60's era geared bike with a stickshift like a car I just got the geared one and need to put it into working condition. The chopper gets used in every season but winter. The first fixed is my main bike, and the new conversion will be my winter/inclement weather bike. |
2 fixed, a third will be on the way
|
I now own three. I just sold a singlespeed/fixed conversion.
fixed road commuter The commuter has been getting the most love lately because it's now the only full fendered machine I own. The road bike needs some work (needs a powdercoat job. and some drivetrain help), and that will be my next project since the fixed and commuter are finally tweaked to my satisfaction*. I will probably eventually either cobble together a "modern" road bike (I've never owned a non-steel bike or one with brifters) or do a vintage conversion (British path racer or Major Taylor-style) after that. *for now anyway |
1 fixed conversion
1 geared MTB MTB has been degraded to spare bike status since the fixie arrived, but will see more action on tours or climbing a hill or two. |
